Sanyo-Onoda City University has a history that dates back to 1881 when the Tokyo Academy of Physics was established. The academy’s aim was to promote science and technology teaching in Japan.
In 1987 the Tokyo University of Science, Yamaguchi College was founded as a private university. In 1995 it became the Tokyo University of Science, Yamaguchi (TUSY). In 2016 TUSY turned into a public university and was renamed Sanyo-Onoda City University.
The university is located in Yamaguchi, a prefecture in the Chūgoku region of Honshu, Japan.
There are only two faculties within the university, the faculty of engineering and the faculty of pharmaceutical sciences.
The faculty of engineering consists of three departments: mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and applied chemistry. The faculty aims to foster students as future international scientists and engineers.
The faculty of pharmaceutical sciences was established in 2018. Its mission is to contribute to the community through pharmacy, create innovative medical care for the community and connect the community to the world.
Throughout the year, the university carries out a range of innovative research projects. These projects are organised into three main divisions: division of advanced engineering, division of biotechnology and life sciences, and the division and inquisition and special research.
