About the role

This role has a teaching and research focus. Working in a new course, the Senior Lecturer will collaboratively contribute to the design, development, implementation, evaluation, and ongoing improvement of an innovative curriculum and pedagogy for the Master of Speech Pathology. They will lead unit and course teaching teams to develop, implement and continuously improve the student learning experience and outcomes, taking on specific leadership roles, for example, Course Director. The position will work with the local community and lead growing, increasingly productive, high-quality research, scholarship and engagement activities.

As a Senior Lecturer, you will:


	Integrate industry, clinical, collaborative and/or research practice into unit/course design to improve student learning experiences.
	Integrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges and perspectives across curriculum and teaching practice.
	Lead the development and/or adoption of new innovation in curriculum design
	Make a significant contribution to pedagogy research projects and demonstrate a disciplinary reputation in teaching scholarship and pedagogical research.
	Seek funding for research and creative activities, including applications for external competitive funding, external funding for commercialization and translation activities
	Recruit and supervise HDR students with timely completions and production and high-quality outcomes and provide effective mentoring to HDR students


To be successful, you’ll have: 


	Qualification as a speech pathologist at undergraduate or graduate level plus a PhD in a relevant area or advanced qualifications and extensive experience in academic speech pathology.
	Demonstrated experience in and knowledge of speech pathology professional competency development and standards, and of contemporary issues relating to the profession.
	Demonstrated excellence in student engagement and demonstrated experience in leadership roles
	Excellent record of scholarly learning and teaching in PG programs, including innovative curriculum design and research supervision.
	Growing research reputation underpinned by publications in quality journals.
	Knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and contemporary issues related to First Nations Peoples
	Positive engagement with research, community, industry and government to enhance the national standing of the discipline

About the Role

As the Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, you will contribute to the teaching and research efforts of the School and the Department of Biomedical Engineering. The Department of Biomedical Engineering is a thriving research and teaching department focused on industry-engaged biomedical problems.

This role will see you:


	Make a significant contribution to the delivery of programs and be actively involved in research, consulting and other professional activities.
	Develop, engage in and lead high quality research projects that are aligned with the University's research focus areas in biomedical engineering of devices, computational modeling and end-user focused medical technology to achieve success in attracting research funding and to produce high quality outputs.
	Have an important research leadership role in embedding your biomedical research expertise into the life of the School and develop high quality, productivity-driven networks across RMIT and with local and national, internal and external partners with a significant focus on industrial medical technology and healthcare connectivity.
	May have responsibility for program management.


To be successful for level B appointment, you will have:


	Research and Teaching experience in the field of biomedical engineering, with a particular focus on advanced computational methods such as computational fluid dynamics, medical device innovation and digital health technologies.
	Experience in collaborating with hospitals, healthcare providers, and interdisciplinary teams to translate engineering research solutions to improve healthcare delivery.
	Demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver programs at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, including online delivery, and the ability to produce high quality curriculum or program materials.
	Ability to undertake course coordination role.
	Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with and to negotiate sensitively with students especially on issues related to effective learning.
	Emerging track record and recognition for quality research outputs which will contribute to existing.
	Discipline and School research areas evidenced by publications, development of new research initiatives, competitive research funding, and industry links.
	Demonstrated ability to supervise higher degree by research candidates.
	Ability to build effective networks with colleagues and generate alternative funding projects through effective liaison with industry and government.
	Excellent interpersonal and communications skills appropriate for interacting with higher degree by research candidates, staff and industry, together with a strong commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration.


To be successful for level C appointment, you will have:


	Research and Teaching experience in the field of biomedical engineering, with a particular focus particular focus on advanced computational methods such as computational fluid dynamics, medical device innovation and digital health technologies.

	Ability to manage a large program or a number of small programs with demonstrated ability to support student issues related to effective learning.
	Emerging track record and recognition for quality research outputs which will contribute to existing Discipline and School research areas evidenced by publications, development of new research initiatives, competitive research funding, and industry links.
	Extensive experience in research leadership with the ability to build and develop collaborative research teams, mentor academic staff to deliver high quality outcomes, attract and secure external research funding to sustain research effort and manage funded research projects including complex budgets and reporting requirements.
	Extensive experience in supervising higher degree by research candidates to maximise research performance.
	Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to financial, governance and quality management systems within a university.
	Demonstrated high level of interpersonal, communication and negotiating skills including the ability to consult with senior executives, external bodies, staff and industry, together with a strong commitment to teamwork, collaboration and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Appointment as Assistant Professor will be made on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Linguistics, or a related field. The ideal candidate will have an exemplary research record and a transdisciplinary approach cutting across subfields. We seek to hire a scholar whose research addresses one or several of the following themes: (1) developing and analysing language interfaces between humans and machines; (2) uncovering links between language, nature, culture, and social organization; (3) examining the forces of language emergence, evolution, and linguistic diversity.

The appointee will be thoroughly familiar with cutting-edge methods relevant to their area(s) of specialization and employ excellent data science skills. The successful candidate should have experience collecting and analyzing large and small corpora, preferably typologically diverse, and approach language research from an interdisciplinary perspective.  Experience with multilingual populations and working with under-resourced languages is a plus.
