About the Job

This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on research experience in a well-funded, and internationally prominent, research group. In particular we are looking for candidates who are keen to gain experience prior to starting a PhD or research post in developmental, educational or clinical psychology or neuroscience.

An Institute Manager is required for the new Institute for the Science of Early Years (ISEY), a new centre currently being set up based on existing work from the UEL BabyDev Lab (www.uelbabydev.com), and other world-leading courses at UEL (e.g. the Educational and Child Psychology Prof Doc and Clinical Psychology Prof Doc, Psychology, Education). 

The post holder will be responsible for coordinating several ongoing research grants in early years neuroscience, including awards from the European Research Council, European Union, Economic and Social Research Councils UK, and Medical Research Council, as well as liaising with academic staff, local national and international educational bodies, commercial partners, clinical partners, local councils, journalists and media.

Duties will be highly varied, and will involve: managing recruitment of infant/child participants, coordinating a large and highly active group research including coordinating lab meetings, procurement, reports to grant holders, coordinating academic staff across the university, managing students and interns on research projects, managing the group’s state-of-the-art research facilities which include AR/VR, EEG, fNIRS, eyetracking, wearables, managing the centre’s social media channels, dealing with press inquiries, liaising with local education providers and clinical partners, and so on.  

About You

We are looking for candidates who are keen to gain experience prior to starting a PhD or research post in developmental, educational or clinical psychology or neuroscience. Candidates with exceptional organisational, communication, and technical skills. Any of the following types of experience would be advantageous, experience working with infants and young children; experience of managing grants and grant reporting; managing social media channels; teamwork; ability to manage peers; ability to cope with a busy and fast-changing workload; excellent academic credentials; technical skills (use of EEG/fNIRS/eyetracking /physiology/wearables); programming skills (especially Matlab/Python).

The Laboratory of Applied Nonlinear Dynamics (L.A.N.D) within the Division of Engineering at New York University, Abu Dhabi is seeking to appoint one Post-Doctoral Associate starting September 2024. The successful candidate must have previous research experience (computational and experimental) in the broad area of Nonlinear Mechanics.

Applicants must have received a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, or any closely-related field. Excellent communication skills in English, the ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams, and scientific creativity are essential.

About the team:

The research group Scientific Computing, led by Prof. Siegfried Benkner, focuses on research in programming paradigms, languages, compilers, and software and hardware infrastructures for scientific computing to support users in the process of solving increasingly complex compute- and data-intensive problems in science and engineering on high-end parallel and distributed computing platforms.
The selected candidate will participate in an international and interdisciplinary research project under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Atakan Aral.  The project aims to ensure seamless and reliable monitoring of critical infrastructures (e.g., facilities for water supply and electricity generation) through real-time and distributed processing of IoT sensor data. The project team will include doctoral and master’s students in our group, as well as international partners from the University of Sheffield, UK, and University College Dublin, Ireland.

Your future tasks:

Active participation in research and administration, which means:


	You develop an independent research profile in the field of distributed systems.
	You get involved in the research and management of the EU project mentioned above.
	You supervise the research conducted by master’s and doctoral students.
	You engage with colleagues from adjacent fields and collaborate on interdisciplinary research.
	You publish internationally and give lectures.
	You apply for projects and raise third-party funds.


This is a purely research-oriented position with no teaching duties, unless the candidate specifically requests them, in which case additional compensation will be provided.

These are your qualifications:


	You have completed doctoral/PhD studies in Computer Science or a closely related field, or you expect to complete them by 31.12.2024.
	You have established experience in distributed systems, ideally in the areas of the Internet of Things, Edge/Cloud Computing, Edge AI/Federated Learning, or Sensor Networks, with a focus on resource management, latency/performance optimization, fault tolerance, scalability, or energy efficiency/sustainability.

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to join Dr Lindsay Broadbent’s group in the Section of Virology, School of Biosciences, University of Surrey.

The role

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a collaborative translational research project exploring the association of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection and the development of childhood asthma. The successful candidate will use complex respiratory epithelial cell models grown and differentiated at air-liquid interface to explore virus-host interactions and subsequent innate immune responses and signalling pathways.

We are therefore looking for a highly motivated individual with or about to obtain a PhD in a biological science related subject, and proven ability in cell biology and virus research. A background in culturing primary cells and/or organoid systems, virology, innate immunology and transcriptomics would also be highly beneficial.

Our well-equipped laboratory is located in the School of Biosciences at the beautiful campus of the University of Surrey, close to London. The dynamic and growing Section of Virology is comprised of five research groups focused on the molecular and cellular basis of disease caused by a range of important human and animal pathogens including herpesviruses, poxviruses, SARS-CoV2, RSV and arboviruses.
