The Organic Synthesis Group of Prof. Maulide in the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Vienna is currently seeking a PhD student with research experience in organic chemistry and natural product synthesis for 4 years temporary employment relationship.

Our Team currently consists of 10 post docs, 13 prae docs, 2 senior scientists and administrative colleagues.

The employment duration is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declation.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:


	Studies on the stereoselective preparation of organic compounds. Special emphasis on the development of new synthetic reactions and reaction sequences, with a focus on (regio)selective metalation reactions and their optimization, the synthesis of fluorescent molecules, transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions (including the synthesis of suitable ligands and complexes), as well as the diastereoselective synthesis of polyfunctionalized organic molecules through targeted manipulation of cationic intermediates.
	We expect you to finalize your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months.
	You work on your dissertation and its completion.
	You teach within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
	You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.


This is part of your personality:


	Completed Master's degree or Diploma, in the field of Chemistry with profound knowledge and practical experience in the field of Organic Synthesis.
	Ability to work independently in the field of organic synthesis, including working under inert atmosphere.
	Experience with:
	
		the chemistry of organometallic compounds (alkyllithium reagents and Barbier reaction), as well as regioselective metalation reactions.
		flow NMR and the synthesis of fluorescent molecules.
		the synthesis of ligands and transition metal complexes for cross coupling reactions.
		stereoselective synthesis through carbocation-driven cyclization reactions.
	
	
	Basic experience in academic writing and with research methods.
	Excellent command of wirtten and spoken English.
	IT user sikills: e.g. Microsoft Office, ChemOffice
	You should be a team player with high social skills

The Vietnamese-German University (VGU) is seeking a highly qualified full-time lecturer in Distributed Computing and Systems. Candidates must hold a PhD in this field or a closely related field and have a strong background in research. Relevant international experience is an advantage. The successful candidate will become part of an international network of universities and research institutes.

Teaching Responsibilities

In the role of a lecturer, the successful candidate will teach graduate courses in MCS and undergraduate courses in the CSE bachelor program. The expected workload for the in-class lecture conduct is 08 academic hours per week, totaling 240 academic hours per year (1 academic hour equals to 45 minutes).

Teaching should reflect current research methods and results, and comprises lectures on the following modules:


	Computer Network – 1
	Computer Network – 2
	Distributed Systems IoT and smart devices
	Real-time systems
	Fundamental courses in related areas


The named courses are subject to change upon realistic needs of the programs and joint agreement between the lecturer, relevant Academic Coordinators, and Dean/Vice Dean in charge of teaching. Courses may requires conducting relevant laboratory activities and/or advising student projects.

The holder of this job is also responsible for supervising bachelor’s and master’s theses and mentoring PhD students.

Research Responsibilities

As a faculty member of a research-oriented university, the successful candidate is expected to significantly contribute to the scientific profile of VGU through innovation. This includes and is not limited to comprehensive activities in basic research as well as applied research in the fields of distributed systems and high-performance computing. The ability to apply and generate externally funded research projects is highly desirable.

Administrative responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development of the Computer Science Program by participating in administrative, marketing and other public activities of the program in consultation with the Academic Coordinator of the study program and the German partner university, namely Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. She or he is also expected to contribute actively to the academic self-

administration of the Faculty of Engineering and university by being willing to stand for election to the Faculty Council, Academic Senate and/or other bodies.

Qualification

Candidates must hold a PhD in Computer Science or a closely related field, preferably from a well-known international university. A current title of Professor will be a plus, as will experience and understanding of the German higher education system and methodology. Other requirements include:


	An outstanding academic record with a focus on computer networks, parallel & distributed computing, or other areas closely related to it
	Proven expertise in edge computing, load balancing, parallelism, virtual machine technologies and distributed file systems
	Strong track record of successful research activities and publications in international and peer-reviewed journals in the related area
	Proven teaching experience with strong self-motivation combined with a passion for teaching and research
	Experience in industry is an advantage
	Proven excellent English proficiency:
	
		Candidates who are from non-native English-speaking countries should include one of the following valid English proficiency certificates; IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 548(PBT), TOEFL 84 (iBT), TOEFL 212 (CBT), CEFR level B2 or Aptis level C1 at the time of application submission. Alternatively, candidates who do not hold a valid English proficiency certificate at the submission time need to be internally assessed at VGU to meet the criterion stated above.1

The Opportunity 

Are you passionate about data and its potential to drive strategic decisions? We are looking for a dedicated Research Data Officer to join our team and play a critical role in the development, implementation, and ongoing management of our research data systems. This position is essential in ensuring accurate and robust reporting for both internal and external stakeholders.

As a Research Data Officer, you will be responsible for managing reporting projects, system upgrades, and data audits. You will maintain strong stakeholder relationships and provide comprehensive data analysis and reporting support to aid in decision-making processes. Your role will involve liaising with key stakeholders to understand their business requirements for reporting, analysing research data, and delivering reports that meet the University's needs. You will capture and integrate research performance data for analysis, strategic funding, and benchmarking purposes, and assist other team members in enhancing research reporting, analytics, and visualisations. In addition to data analysis and reporting, you will work collaboratively with key stakeholders, including IT Infrastructure, on research systems implementation and maintenance. Ensuring data integrity and quality assurance will be a key part of your role. You will also effectively manage projects such as Research Management System (RMS) upgrades and assist managers on projects like University Rankings, liaising with key stakeholders, conducting data analysis, and modelling.

This is a full-time, ongoing position based at Kingwood Campus, although travel to other campuses of the University will be required.
