About Rochester Christian University

Rochester College, established in 1959, is a liberal arts college in the Rochester Hills suburb of the city of Detroit, Michigan. The college was established by the Churches of Christ on a country estate in northern Detroit. The goal was to establish a liberal arts college in the tradition of the Churches of Christ to cater to the northern central USA. The institution was originally called North Central Christian College but in 1961 the name was changed to Michigan Christian College and again in 1997 to Rochester College. This most recent name change reflected the institution’s broadening vision and desire for inclusivity. The college retains its founding principles and offers a values-based education with a focus on academic rigour.

Today Rochester College is a private, four-year liberal arts college with around 1,000 students studying mainly undergraduate degrees although a small postgraduate curriculum is available. There is a focus on integrated learning at the college and the aim is to provide students with a well-rounded education for ‘mind, body and spirit.’ The college adheres to its Christian roots, welcoming anyone who wishes to further explore their faith.

The campus covers 80 acres of woodland and lawns overlooking the Clinton River. The campus also has its own lake. The college’s academic and administrative buildings make up the bulk of the campus along with the halls of residence, college shop, church, library and sports and leisure facilities.
