The Open Christian University is a nondenominational Christian university that was established in 2019 by the founders of Open Christian Ministries. It was first registered in South Africa in July 2021 and in 2023 it was licensed to operate as a private post-secondary institution under religious exemption. Since then, the university has continued to offer ministerial education leading to bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees using e-learning and blended learning across the globe.
Academically, the school is organised into three schools: the school of ministry, the school of business theology, and the school of interdisciplinary studies.
The school of ministry aims to respond to the current needs and questions of today’s world by equipping church leaders with interdisciplinary knowledge, professional field skills and meaningful spiritual lessons. The school of business theology specialises in preparing Christians for business and professional work, while the school of interdisciplinary studies collaborates with secular institutions to deliver secular programmes based on identified knowledge gaps and student leadership needs.
Throughout the year the university publishes its research findings in the Open Journal of Business Theology.
