The Research Fellow will develop novel functional materials suitable for the removal of target contaminants, both metal and organic in a variety of contaminated environmental matrices including natural waters, waste waters and soil matrices. The synthesised materials will subsequently be incorporated into interfacial solar evaporator as a porous reactive support to achieve solar driven evaporative remediation (SDER).

About the Job:

The Department of Communication in the College of Liberal Arts is seeking vibrant candidates to teach a full range of undergraduate Communication courses related to Media and Audio-Visual Production including, but not limited to Editing, Digital Video Production, Mass and Digital Media, Audio Production, News Directing, Topics in Media, and other upper-level Communication electives.

All faculty positions are full-time assignments, effective for the year of 2025. These positions are full-time assignments appointed on a 3-year contract at the first instance and are renewable upon successful reappointment review. Please find the Recruiting Categories below for more information on each position.

A tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor is a full-time, 10-month employee who teaches 24 credits per academic year (a 6-credit course release per academic year is available in the first three years of appointment for grant proposal development and other substantial research initiatives). The course release may be available by application on a competitive basis after the initial three years of appointment. A start-up grant will be provided to launch student-engaging research programs. The candidate will be expected to participate in the full range of faculty responsibilities, including high-quality teaching, research, advising, student learning support, and service to the university and/or professional community. The tenure-track appointment requires publications in internationally recognized and vigorously peer-reviewed journals.

A Lecturer is a full-time, 11-month employee who teaches 39 credits per year, or a 10-month employee who teaches 30 credits per year. A lecturer provides student and learning support services during the assigned period. Lecturers will be expected to provide high-quality teaching, student advisement, learning support services, and service to the university/college/school/program and/or professional community and perform related work as required. Lecturer positions are non-tenure track.

Candidates with doctorate degrees from reputable universities (Carnegie R1 institutions or comparable research institutions with strong academic reputations in the fields) are encouraged to apply.

Teaching assignments and related responsibilities may include day, evening, weekend and online courses. Interest or experience in using advanced instructional technologies to improve the teaching/learning process is highly desirable. About the Job: 

WKU launched the graduate program in Instruction and Curriculum (TESOL Concentration) in Fall 2020 with an initial cohort of 12 students. We are now in the fifth cohort with 46 students. Our student body includes both pre-service as well as experienced K-12 teachers from all over China. We anticipate a steady programmatic expansion in the future that will bring in additional students as well as faculty members.

WKU is seeking two to three candidates to teach a full range of MA TESOL graduate courses. Our faculty teaches graduate-level courses in general linguistics, TESOL methods, and language assessment, and engages in research with students, as well as in a variety of other program-specific projects.

The successful candidate will have a clear record of expertise in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) and the demonstrated ability to prepare MA TESOL students to teach in both ESL and EFL contexts. Candidates with EFL teaching at the K-12 level and teacher-training experience will be prioritized for this position. Candidates must have an ongoing agenda for engaging students in research and are expected to publish research outcomes in well-recognized and impactful journals. Candidates are expected to advise graduate students to develop research projects and produce publishable research outcomes. In addition to teaching and research, candidates are expected to contribute to the growth of the program, including but not limited to, curriculum development, program assessment, student recruitment and advising, faculty hiring, program promotion, and internship opportunities.

This full-time faculty position will start in Fall 2025. This position will be offered at the Lecturer level or the rank of Tenure-Track Assistant or Associate Professor. All positions will have an initial 3-year contract that is renewable. Lecturer positions are 11-month appointments and typically teach 39 credits per academic year. The Tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor positions are 10-month appointments requiring research and publications in internationally recognized and vigorously peer-reviewed journals. Tenure-track faculty members typically carry a 24-credit-hour load per academic year. Six (6) credits course release per academic year is available in the first 3 years of appointment. After the initial 3 years, course release may be available to faculty for national-level grant proposal development or other substantial research initiatives. The candidate will be expected to participate in the full range of faculty responsibilities, including high-quality teaching, research, advising, student learning support, and service to the university and/or professional community.

The University will provide start-up grants (up to 80,000 RMB) to support candidates in starting their research projects. After joining WKU, faculty have the opportunity to apply for a variety of internal research funding, including international research collaboration grants (up to 80,000 RMB per project) and external funding opportunities at the municipal, provincial, and national levels.

ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF CHIPS

The School of CHIPS is one of the seven industry-themed Schools in the XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang). Each School consists of an Education, Research and Development Institute (ERDI) for teaching and research collaboration, a one-stop School Office providing professional services to support student administration and activities, members of staff, and industry partners, and an affiliated School Joint-Venture Company jointly established by XJTLU and the School’s partner for industry-embedded teaching, learning, practical, and other activities. The School of CHIPS is jointly developed by the University and industry partners, Standard Science Chip Cloud Microelectronics and Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology, to deliver the industry-themed programme(s). The first-degree programme that the School has launched for the Academic Year 2021/2022 is BEng Microelectronics Science and Engineering with Contemporary Entrepreneurship.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCES


	A doctoral research (normally PhD) degree in electrical and electronics engineering, microelectronics engineering, integrated circuits design, integrated circuits fabrication, microprocessor systems, digital VLSI design, CMOS digital integrated circuits, or be able to demonstrate an equivalent professional practice and engagement.
	Self-motivated for innovative teaching.
	Clear understanding of the philosophy and concept of Syntegrative Education (SE).
	Demonstrable past teaching/industry experiences or practices aligned with Syntegrative Education (SE).
	A commitment to Continual Professional Development in all areas of the role as an academic at the university.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE


	A good track record of engagement with business and industry.

Early career researchers with PhD degree in anatomy, organismal biology, cell biology, pharmacology or related disciplines, obtained within the past 10 years from reputable universities including Carnegie R1 institutions or equivalent research institutions renowned for their academic excellence in these fields.

Tenure-track candidates should possess a strong track record for publication and are ready to lead their own research groups independently. These positions are full-time assignments appointed on a 3-year contract at the first instance. Tenure-track faculty are required to teach 24 credits per academic year, conduct research, and provide service to the university and/or professional community. Six credits of teaching release time will be provided to new faculty each year for the first three consecutive years of the appointment to support external research grant development and other significant research endeavors. The university will provide start-up grants (up to 300,000 RMB) supporting their research programs. After joining WKU, faculty will apply to a variety of internal research funds including international research collaboration grants (up to 300,000 RMB per project) as well as external grants at the municipal, provincial, and national levels. Tenure-track faculty are also expected to provide service to the university and/or professional community.

Bioinformatics expertise and/or experience in the biomedical field is desirable in support of the two platforms: Zhejiang Province Bioinformatics International Science and Technology Collaboration Center and the Key Lab of Applied Biomedical Informatics of Wenzhou City, which is hosted and housed at WKU.

Teaching assignments and related responsibilities may include day, evening, and online courses. Interest or experience in using advanced instructional technologies to improve the teaching/learning process is highly desirable. All faculty may be required to teach General Education courses as needed. Opportunities are also available to teach disciplinary support courses.

Faculty positions at WKU offer:

$70,000-$78,000 for Assistant Professors. Extraordinarily strong candidates at Associate Professor or Professor level may be considered for a special research track position with high research output expectations, low teaching load (1-1 or 2-0 load), generous research start-up funding (RMB 1-5 million), a 10-month salary of RMB 0.7-1.0 million (about USD $105-147K), and RMB 1 million in housing subsidy

Qualifications

A doctorate degree in Biology or closely related fields is required. English fluency is required. Candidates should be able to teach upper-level courses related to pharmacology, anatomy & physiology, microbiology, immunology, virology, genetics, organismal biology, or cell biology in addition to General Biology courses. For tenure-track positions, early career researchers with PhD degree in biology or closely related disciplines obtained within the past 10 years from reputable universities including Carnegie R1 institutions or equivalent research institutions renowned for their academic excellence in these fields.

Tenure-track candidates should possess a strong track record for publication and be ready to lead their research groups independently. Tenure track candidates are expected to plan and conduct research and develop extramurally funded research programs involving students, which is essential for tenure and promotion. Tenure track candidates are also expected to publish peer-reviewed journal articles in impactful journals in Biology or closely related fields. In addition to teaching and student-engaging research duties, candidates are also expected to contribute to the growth of the programs, including but not limited to curriculum development, program assessment, student recruitment/advisement, senior project supervision, internship opportunities, research experiences for undergraduates (REU), etc.
