The Laboratory of Applied Nonlinear Dynamics (L.A.N.D) within the Division of Engineering at New York University, Abu Dhabi is seeking to appoint one Post-Doctoral Associate starting September 2024. The successful candidate must have previous research experience (computational and experimental) in the broad area of Nonlinear Mechanics.

Applicants must have received a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, or any closely-related field. Excellent communication skills in English, the ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams, and scientific creativity are essential.

About the Role

Join the University of Melbourne’s dynamic research community as a Researcher focused on advanced combustion simulations for gas turbines and reciprocating engines. This position offers the opportunity to lead independent research using cutting-edge High-Performance Computing (HPC), Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS), Large Eddy Simulations (LES), and a novel experimental setup developed at the University. As part of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, you will contribute to both research and teaching, enhancing the department's renowned expertise in energy technologies.

Your responsibilities will include:


	Contributing to teaching, training, scientific mentoring and supervision of students
	Supervising junior research staff in the appointee’s area of expertise
	Conducting lectures, tutorials, mark and undertake laboratory duties as required by the Department.


Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a motivated individual with strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to driving innovation in energy technologies. The ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment is essential.

You will also have:


	A PhD in Mechanical, Chemical or Aerospace Engineering, or closely related discipline; with no more than 5 years of experience post-PhD
	A record of quality research as evidenced by publications in leading journals and at conferences commensurate with opportunity
	Ability to perform independent research and a commitment to interdisciplinary research

The Trabolsi Research Group at New York University Abu Dhabi invites applications for a post-doctoral associate position focused on the development of covalent organic frameworks (COFs)-based adsorbents and membranes for advanced water purification technologies.

The successful candidate will lead innovative research aimed at optimizing the application of COFs in water purification, with a particular focus on removing emerging contaminants such as pharmaceuticals and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from water. This project will involve the directed synthesis of COF structures tailored for the selective removal of specific contaminants, followed by comprehensive studies of their molecular interactions with various emerging pollutants.

Key Responsibilities:


	Design and synthesize COFs with specific properties for targeted contaminant removal.
	Develop and optimize methods for using COF-based materials in water treatment systems, including adsorption columns and membrane technologies.
	Conduct experiments using techniques such as batch adsorption protocols, adsorption columns, membrane cells, and electrochemical water decontamination.
	Analyze and interpret data from these techniques to refine and improve COF performance in real-world applications.
	Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of PhD scientists, graduate students, and undergraduates, contributing to a dynamic and collaborative research environment.


Qualifications:


	PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
	Extensive experience in the synthesis and characterization of covalent organic frameworks, particularly as they relate to water treatment applications.
	Strong background in experimental techniques relevant to the project, including experience with porous frameworks in water purification systems.
	Proficiency in analytical techniques used to characterize materials and their interactions with contaminants.
	A proven track record of interdisciplinary research and collaboration in materials science and engineering is preferred.

Our mission is to nurture leading data scientists through an interdisciplinary curriculum that fosters ethical, critical and strategic thinking. The SDS comprises two divisions: the Division of Artificial Intelligence and the Division of Industrial Data Science, as well as the LEO Dr David P. Chan Institute of Data Science.

The LEO Dr. David P. Chan Institute of Data Science (https://www.ln.edu.hk/sds/leodcids/home) aims to (i) provide education service; (ii) empower researchers; (iii) cultivate new collaborations, and (iv) perform academic research in some selected areas of data science.

The appointee will join the LEO Dr. David P. Chan Institute of Data Science and will be expected to:


	carry out research and submit papers to top journals in the field of large vision models or large language models. Additionally, the appointee will be responsible for submitting grant proposals to various funding bodies. Furthermore, the appointee will have the opportunity to organize conferences, seminars, reading groups, workshops, and other related research activities;
	play a central role in the daily operation of the upcoming new Taught Postgraduate programme(s) offered by the Division of Artificial Intelligence/ LEO Dr. David P. Chan Institute of Data Science. The teaching load will be two courses per year, distributed according to the needs of the Institute and upon mutual agreement. English will be the medium of instruction. General Requirements

Candidates should have (i) a PhD degree in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant discipline; (ii) a good command of both English and Chinese; (iii) a strong publication record in the top-tier journals/conferences in the relevant field; and (iv) experience in developing external competitive research proposals. Candidates with a good teaching record will be an advantage.

Appointment

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
