Namangan State University is located on the Silk Road, 20 miles from the border with Kyrgyzstan.
Founded in 1941 as a teachers college, the university attained university status in 1992, shortly after Uzbekistan declared independence.
It began with the faculties of economics, agriculture, humanities and natural science and has since has expanded to include social sciences, political sciences, history, psychology, education and many others.
Courses are offered part and full-time, in evenings and at distance to give students maximum flexibility.
It holds regular Maths and Physics Olympiads for schools.
Courses are offered in English, Russian and German as well as Uzbek.
It has agreements with more than 40 international universities. Five joint degrees in education are run with the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia iand dual medical degrees with Ural State Medical University.
