Mus Alparslan University is one of 17 new universities created by Turkey’s government in 2007. It is based in Guzeltepe village outside Mus, a predominantly Kurdish city on Turkey’s East Anatolian plateau.
Having started with schools of education, healthcare, vocational social science and vocational technical science in 2007, by 2015 it had added arts and science, economic and administrative science, communications, engineering and the Malazgirt Vocational High School.
More recent additions include dentistry, applied science, physical education and sports science and four more vocational high schools, including one specialised in health sciences.
Notable developments include the introduction of Kurdish Language and Literature classes and the creation of a pilot project in Livestock and Digital Transformation.
In 2024 science and arts students devised experiments in biology, medicine and genetics for the flight of Turkey’s first astronaut.
