Modern College of Business and Science was Oman’s first fully private university when it was founded in 1996.
Staff from the University of Missouri-St Louis were integral to implementing the US-style of business education at the university and since 2012 it has run an MBA accredited by Franklin University, Ohio.
It offers courses ranging from BTec diplomas and associate degrees through to master's and doctoral programmes.
Students come from approximately 35 countries.
The computer science and mathematics department offers six degree courses including games development and animation while the business and economics department include risk management and insurance, digital business management, and auditing and forensic accounting. An evening-taught master's is offered to mid-career professionals.
MCBS has, at different times, launched the first doctorate in business administration and the first master's in banking in finance in Oman.
The majority of courses are offered in English and the Centre for English as a Special Language and Academic Preparation offers programmes to bring new students up to the required level. Some courses are taught in Arabic. These include a master's in public administration and an MBA programme majoring in human resources.
