Kardan University is the largest private university in Afghanistan, housed across three campuses in Kabul, Taimani Square and Parwan-e-Du.
The university’s origins can be traced back to the opening of the Kardan Institute in 2002, with just 12 students in one small rented classroom in the Macroryan area of Kabul.
In 2012, Kardan University helped establish the Association of Private Universities and Institutes of Higher Education in Afghanistan and served as its elected chair for two consecutive terms.
Kardan University became the first Afghan university to be accredited by the International Assembly of Collegiate Business Education for its Business Management programme.
In 2018, it was given the highest scores of any university in the country in its academic accreditation from the Ministry of Higher Education.
Kardan University has over 4,000 students pursuing diplomas, undergraduate and graduate programmes. It has hosted over 500 students with international scholarships from Fulbright and Chevening and other organisations and has an alumni community of over 30,000.
The university offers courses to both men and women in management sciences, information technology, engineering and social sciences at graduate level, and business administration and international relations at masters level.
Facilities include the admission and information office, the cafeteria, the student success centre, the office of career services, the office of student involvement and events, the office of gender and alumni relations, the writing and communication centre, female lounge and prayer rooms and various laboratories.
The office of international affairs and strategic partnerships serves to facilitate international and national academic and nonacademic partnerships.
