JSSATE Bengaluru was named after Jagadguru Sri Srivavarethreeshwara, founding pontiff of Sri Suttur Math, a spiritual movement aimed at social and economic justice active for 1000 years in the state of Karnataka. JSSATE Bengaluru was founded in 1997 by his 23rd successor.
It is part of a network of 300 JSS institutions including Visvesveraya Technological University, to which it is affiliated.
It is located on a 21-acre campus on the south-west edge of Bangalore, where Green Campus initiatives such as water harvesting, recycling and waste composting have been a priority in recent years.
Eight undergraduate programmes are offered. These include information science and engineering, electronics and communications engineering, and computer science and engineering, artificial intelligence and machine learning, civil, mechanical, and electronic and instrumentation engineering and robotics and automation.
A new master's in computer applications was introduced in 2022.
