Jinnah Sindh Medical University (formerly Sindh Medical College) is located in the centre of the city of Karachi in Pakistan.
Established in 1973 as one of seven new medical colleges, Jinnah Sindh Medical University was awarded status as a university in 2012.
It is since expanded to become the largest institution of medical science in the province of Sindh, with over 5,000 medical students.
It is recognised by educational bodies such as the Higher Education Commission and Pakistan Medical and Dental Council.
The university has many facilities as part of its infrastructure including air-conditioned lecture halls, biometric and facial recognition attendance, modern laboratories, libraries and a fleet of 17 buses.
Jinnah Sindh Medical University comprises of eight institutions, namely Sindh Medical College (SMC), Sindh Institute of Oral Health Sciences (SIOHS), APPNA Institute of Public Health (AIPH), the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPS), the Institute of Health and Business Management and Social Sciences, the Institute of Nursing, the Institute of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation and the College of Family Medicine.
Under the JSMU Health Awareness Program of Pakistan, the university students volunteer for the people of Pakistan at their homes, schools and, market places, in person and through print and electronic means of mass communication.
The institution was among five universities in Karachi and 23 universities in Pakistan to be ranked in the Times Higher Education Impact rankings for 2020. Universities were ranked according to their work corresponding to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
JSMU scored well in the rankings related to the SDGs of good health and well-being, gender equality, quality education and partnership for the goals.
