Founded in 2013, Jabir ibn Hayyan Medical University (JMU) is one of the first specialised universities in Iraq.
The campus is based in Najaf, which is situated in central Iraq. Located about 100 miles south of Baghdad, Najaf lies on a ridge just west of the Euphrates River.
The faculty of medicine was established in 2013 with 86 students. Since then, the offering has expanded and there are now three more faculties: dentistry, pharmacy and nursing. There’s also a large university hospital with 600 beds and a research centre in various fields of medicine.
Within these faculties, students can gain both bachelor and masters degrees in a wide variety of specialties.
JMU has a selective admission policy based on students' past academic record and grades.
The university’s main mission is to prepare and qualify excellent physicians, dentists, pharmacists and nurses with the ability to provide the country with the best medical services and health care possible.
On campus, JMU has a library, housing and sports facilities.
JMU also has partnerships with other universities worldwide offering students the chance to spend a year studying abroad. It has also established scientific relationships and cultural exchange with global universities to boost research opportunities.
