İzmir University of Economics is a private, non-profit university in Izmir, on the Turkish Aegean coast.
Established in 2001, the institution hosts approximately 9,500 students across 32 different associate degree programmes, 35 undergraduate and 38 postgraduate degree courses, as well as nine PhD programmes. All courses are taught in English.
Undergraduate and postgraduate study at the university is organised by eight core faculties, with subjects spanning engineering, business, medicine, arts, sciences and communication.
Izmir University of Economics has an extensive careers guidance centre, which was set up to support students through work experience and foster connections with business. The university assists with internships and applications, as well as mock interviews to help prepare graduates for the working world.
The campus itself sits close to the coast, in a quieter area of green spaces and coastal views. Izmir city centre is 11km away, and easily reachable by car or public transport for cinema, bars and shopping. From here, visitors can also access historic sites such as the 4th century hilltop castle of Kadifekale.
In addition to the 60 student social clubs on campus, Izmir Economic University has an active sports scene and its sailing and tennis teams compete internationally. Societies and clubs at the university include American football, tennis, mountaineering and sailing to name a few.
The university also boasts two outdoor basketball courts, an outdoor football field, a dance hall and a tennis court. Its close proximity to the sea is a huge draw, and makes it an ideal spot for beach and water sports fans.
