Basic information and contact details for Ivano Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas

institution

The Ivano Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas is a specialist higher education institute in western Ukraine.

Set up in 1967, the university’s core purpose is to provide specialist training degrees for students going into the oil and gas industries. In recent years, however, the institution’s schools have expanded to offer courses in a range of subjects including education in economics, business management and law. Courses are split across 11 colleges and faculties.

Today, the Ivano Frankivsk National Technical University remains one of the region’s largest technical training providers for the Ukrainian energy sector. The university takes a practical approach to teaching, and its degree candidates study as much in the field as in the classroom. As such, strong emphasis is placed on assisting students in finding internships and placements with regional businesses and industry specialists.

At 10,000 students, the university’s population is relatively large, and includes a small but growing international community. International students are provided with lessons in Ukrainian and English where necessary, as well as support finding accommodation and adapting to living abroad.

The university takes part in the Erasmus+ programme, hosting international students from across Europe for exchange semesters.

The university boasts a number of international partnerships, collaborating with universities and businesses in more than 25 different countries, from Belarus to Cameroon. Previous scientific research collaborations include projects with Manchester University and the University of Coventry in the UK.

A specialist department of international relations was opened in 1991 as part of a wider bid to increase the university’s integration with European research partners and build its reputation as a research institution.

Based in the historic city centre of Ivano-Frankivsk, students studying here are within walking distance of shopping malls, restaurants and museums. Lviv is a 2.5 hour train ride away.
