Program Overview

The NYU Abu Dhabi Summer Academy is an 18-month university preparation program designed to enhance the academic profiles of highly motivated Emirati high school students. The program features intensive instruction in Leadership and Public Speaking, Critical Thinking and Writing, Mathematical Reasoning for the Sciences, College Readiness and Success, and IELTS Preparation over the course of two summers and an intervening academic year. 

Following a competitive admissions process, up to 90 program participants are selected each year as recipients of the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Scholarships for Outstanding High School Students, which enables them to attend the Summer Academy.

In this mixed-gender program, students are exposed to a rich cultural and rigorous academic program which enhances their ability to gain admission to and perform well at top-tier English-language universities.  The program begins during the summer following the 10th year of high school and continues for the following 18 months, with two intensive summer sessions of study in Abu Dhabi at the NYUAD Campus. In addition, students participate in online study and academic refresher weekends during the following academic year.

Program Goals

University Preparation

Students gain the academic, cultural, and social skills necessary for success at top-tier universities. Summer Academy graduates have attended Yale, NYU New York, NYU Abu Dhabi, Princeton, United Arab Emirates University, The London School of Economics, George Washington University, King’s College London, The University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, and many others.

Academic Preparation

We introduce students to accelerated study of mathematics, critical thinking and writing, the humanities and to the value of a liberal arts education.

Cultural Awareness

Students develop their understanding of the social and cultural norms of universities and build useful intercultural competencies for success in university.

Test Preparation

We prepare students to excel on the standardized tests necessary for university entry.

Leadership and Public Speaking Skills

With Leadership and Public Speaking as a required course in the Summer Academy,  our program spurs confidence, personal growth, maturity, and leadership skills.

Social Networking

We bring together top students from across the UAE who form a supportive and challenging social network among themselves and with Summer Academy alumni who have gone on to university study, graduate school, professions, and leadership careers.

Job Summary

The Instructor will be responsible for overseeing all academic aspects of the IELTS Test Preparation course, including lesson planning, instruction, grading, providing feedback, and holding office hours for two sections of Summer Academy students: those in their first summer (Summer I) and second summer (Summer II) of the program. The course will involve approximately 15 contact hours, with exact hours determined during the hiring process.

In addition to academic duties, the Instructor will support program-related activities throughout the appointment, including weekends, and participate in selection activities and graduation events as required. The Instructor is expected to actively contribute to enriching the educational experience of the students and to play a key role in helping the program achieve its goals.

	Summer Session: Five weeks from approximately July 7 - August 8, 2025
	Approximately two meetings prior to the summer session’s start for orientation activities


Principal Responsibilities

The job’s activities in terms that enable someone who knows nothing about the job to understand what is done in each activity.


	Teach the IELTS Preparation course to one section - the Class of 2026 (Summer I) in Abu Dhabi
	Work within the existing IELTS Preparation curriculum, which is focused on the development of reading, writing, listening and speaking skills that form the foundation of the English Language Proficiency skills required for admission to top-tier English-language universities. Areas of study include: establishing and reinforcing core academic concepts and skills necessary for success on the IELTS examinations, diagnostic and practice examinations, and strategies and techniques to master the different components of the examination
	Attend any pre-program meetings and/or training sessions
	Work closely with the other IELTS Preparation instructor(s) and Teaching Assistant(s) to ensure that all sections receive the same material delivered with a similar high-quality approach
	Supervise and coordinate instruction with teaching assistants(s)
	Be available to individual students and groups in need of assistance, as well as to other instructors undertaking cross-curricular or collaborative projects
	Provide students with ongoing and regular feedback (oral and written) during the course 
	Participate in faculty meetings by providing detailed feedback on student progress 
	Following the summer session, submit extensive and detailed written feedback on each student to be used in crafting letters of recommendation for their college applications (within 30 days)
	Attend and provide assistance as needed with co-curricular events and activities throughout the summer session, which will entail leading small groups of students on excursions and trips, or supporting the operations of the program as needed
	Oversee and support students during assigned day trips, extracurricular activities, and events, ensuring a safe and engaging environment that promotes learning and development

Description

The Division of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi, UAE is inviting applications for a Post-Doctoral Associate position in the areas of Protein Biochemistry and Enzymology. The candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Wael Rabeh (https://www.rabehlab.com/) on the study of enzymes’ structures and functions in the area of cancer metabolism and viral infectious diseases. Applicants must have a strong background in protein biochemistry including experience in protein expression and purification. The lab is well equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for spectroscopy, thermodynamic and kinetic characterization of proteins’ thermal and chemical unfolding, and mass-spectroscopy for studying protein dynamics.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in biochemistry or a related field of study. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview. Experience in mass spectroscopy or enzymology is desirable. Priority given to candidates with a background in the following areas of expertise:

Protein expression and purification (essential): The candidate must have prior hands-on experience in protein expression in E. coli or other cell lines and purification using affinity and size exclusion chromatography. Experience using FPLC in protein purification is a plus.

Experience in any of the following areas is a plus:


	Enzymology: mechanistic characterization of enzymes using initial velocity and enzyme inhibition kinetics.
	Hydrogen/deuterium exchange (HDX) mass spectrometry (MS) application in the study of enzyme dynamics and protein structural characterization.
	Spectroscopy including UV-Vis, fluorescence and circular dichroism spectroscopy.
	Calorimetry including differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC).


The appointment is for a one-year, renewable term, starting on August 1st, 2024. The employment terms are competitive and include a tax-free salary plus housing and educational subsidies and health and dental insurance for the Postdoctoral Associate and their dependents. About the position

La Trobe University’s Department of Politics, Media and Philosophy seeks to appoint an outstanding academic to a fixed term full-time (1.0 FTE) position as Lecturer in Politics and International Relations. This role encompasses teaching, research and academic service.

The successful applicant will contribute to excellence in teaching and learning across our Politics and International Relations program, including teaching core and elective subjects in the Bachelor of Global Studies, Master of International Relations, and Bachelor of Arts (Politics major). About the Role

The Student Placement Officer, internally referred to as the Work Integrated Learning Support Officer is responsible for providing a range of support services for the College’s Work Integrated (WIL) programs. You will work closely with the WIL Team Leader to leverage opportunities internally and externally and assist with administration, matching students to placements and ensuring that students meet the requirements for preplacement/WIL experience and contribute to enhancing positive graduate outcomes.

You will be required to provide timely advice to various stakeholders and students to support WIL supervision and exercise sound judgement when dealing with sensitive or urgent issues relating to student placements.

As the successful candidate you will be accountable for:


	Liaising with placement providers and undertaking any administration required for placements, including the preparation of contracts, and maintaining quality student data.
	Processing and maintaining accurate data of student placements experience and supporting academic placement coordinators.
