As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. 

The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry innovation research project where you will be part of the research team to develop future-ready display technologies and demo applications for virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality.

Key Responsibilities


	Participate in the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.
	Undertake these responsibilities in the project:
	
		Conduct in-depth AI research towards proof-of-concept (POC) prototypes for future-ready display technologies for VR/AR/MR
		Develop demonstration applications for the POC prototype
	
	
	Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, safety and health regulations.
	Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers.
	Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.


Job Requirements


	A PhD degree in computer or related programmes and have relevant competence in the areas of VR/AR/MR and AI.
	Knowledge and experience in optics will be advantageous.
	Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with people within and external to the university.
	Self-directed learner who believes in continuous learning and development
	Show strong initiative and take ownership of work.
	>=3 years of research experience in VR/AR/MR/AI.
	Hands-on experience of developing POC systems to demonstrate research results.

Description

The Division of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a Post-Doctoral Associate to work under the supervision of Dr. Marwa Banna on one or more of the following topics:


	Random matrix theory
	Free probability theory
	High-dimensional probability, concentration and functional inequalities
	Mathematical aspects of quantum information theory, machine learning and deep neural networks.


While excellent candidates with other research interests might be considered, priority will be given to those able to relate to one or more of the above topics. Applicants must have a PhD in Mathematics, Statistics or Computer Science obtained within the last 5 years.

Applications will be accepted immediately and candidates will be considered until the position is filled. The anticipated starting date is January 1, 2025 and the successful applicant will be appointed until December 31, 2026.

The Role

We seek a highly motivated exercise/sports scientist to join our department as Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor for appointment to the Research and Teaching (comprehensive) job family. You will have expertise in teaching and/or research in motor control and learning / skill acquisition and be able to contribute to one or more of the other sub-disciplines of exercise and sports science of biomechanics, exercise physiology, sports psychology and/or exercise prescription.

Reporting to the Head of Department, the comprehensive Teaching and Research Academic will be expected to actively engage in a research program, contribute to the teaching of exercise and sports science at undergraduate level, supervise higher degree research students, and fulfil service roles to the Department and/or Faculty.

About You

You will be actively engaged in exercise and sports science, research and/or education, with expertise in motor control and learning / skill acquisition; you may also be able to contribute to the other sub-disciplines of exercise and sports science. You will have experience with, or a willingness to embrace, educational technology, blended learning and educational innovation. In addition, ideally you will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the integration between research/practice and quality teaching, and how this integration can enhance student engagement.

The Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences (FMHHS) is ambitiously pushing the boundaries of progressive thinking and challenging what's possible to solve some of the big issues of our time, both nationally and on a global scale.

The Faculty's current education suite includes courses in exercise and sports science, clinical science, physiotherapy, medicine and public health, psychology, cognitive sciences, linguistics, audiology, and speech pathology. The Faculty forms part of MQ Health, an integrated academic health sciences enterprise which incorporates Macquarie University Hospital and primary and speciality clinics. We have active research programs in exercise and sports science, neurosciences, health systems and patient safety research, cancer medicine, and clinical sciences, amongst others. 	Tertiary qualification in exercise science or sports science, including a PhD in the area of motor control and learning / skill acquisition

	A well-articulated research agenda and a track record of publications in high-quality journals
	A demonstrated ability to attract external funding for research and a record of competitive grant successes

	Current accreditation with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA), or the ability and willingness to gain


Appointment to either Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor will be in accordance with demonstrated qualifications, skills, and experience.
