Gwanda State University was established in 2015 as a college of the National University of Science and Technology, and became a separate university a year later in 2016. Specialising in animal sciences, environmental engineering and ecosystems restoration, the university uses its local area which is abundant in natural resources.
The university has two campuses; its main campus in Gwanda town, and a secondary campus at Epoch Mine in Filabusi.
Degree programs at Gwanda State are offered across its five faculties: engineering and the environment, natural resources management and agriculture, computational sciences, expiration and earth sciences, business sciences and management.
The main sports on offer are football, volleyball, athletics, netball, chess, and basketball. Clubs and societies include debate, gender advocacy, environment conservation, and innovation development.
