Basic information and contact details for Fukuoka Women’s University

institution

Fukuoka Women’s University has a history that dates back to 1923 when the Fukuoka Prefectural College for Women was established. It was the first public women’s college in Japan, providing women with higher education in the fields of humanities and home economics. In 1950 it became a four-year university and was renamed Fukuoka Women’s University.

The university is located in Fukuoka, a city on the northern shore of Japan’s Kyushu Island. Fukuoka is Kyushu’s largest city and the capital of Fukuoka Prefecture.

The International College of Arts and Sciences forms the educational structure of the university. The college is divided into three departments: international liberal arts, environmental science, and food and health sciences, which offer a range of both undergraduate and graduate courses. Three principles are at the centre of this new educational framework: international vision and sensibility, leadership, and inventiveness and creativity.

The International Centre was founded in 2006 to facilitate international partnerships and opportunities for both students and staff. The centre has developed a number of programmes enabling students to study abroad as part of an academic exchange. Students can choose to study at one of the university’s partner institutions for a semester or an entire academic year.
