Federal University Lokoja is based in Lokoja at the meeting of the Niger and Benue Rivers, 100 miles north of the Nigerian capital of Abuja. It was among the nine new federal universities created by the government in 2011.
Students are divided between the faculties of arts, science, social sciences, engineering and technology and management science at the permanent campus beside the Lokoja-Okene expressway, and the college of health science, which achieved full teaching hospital status in 2023, at the Adankolo campus.
The university provides undergraduate, master's, doctorate and PGD programmes.
The minimum entry score under Nigeria’s JAMB entry test in 2022 was 180.
The university has grown rapidly in the past few years evidenced by the 804 degrees awarded in 2021, compared with 3,584 new admissions the following year. The university aims to enrol 60 per cent of its students into STEM subjects in the coming years.
