About the team:

The research group Scientific Computing, led by Prof. Siegfried Benkner, focuses on research in programming paradigms, languages, compilers, and software and hardware infrastructures for scientific computing to support users in the process of solving increasingly complex compute- and data-intensive problems in science and engineering on high-end parallel and distributed computing platforms.
The selected candidate will participate in an international and interdisciplinary research project under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Atakan Aral.  The project aims to ensure seamless and reliable monitoring of critical infrastructures (e.g., facilities for water supply and electricity generation) through real-time and distributed processing of IoT sensor data. The project team will include doctoral and master’s students in our group, as well as international partners from the University of Sheffield, UK, and University College Dublin, Ireland.

Your future tasks:

Active participation in research and administration, which means:


	You develop an independent research profile in the field of distributed systems.
	You get involved in the research and management of the EU project mentioned above.
	You supervise the research conducted by master’s and doctoral students.
	You engage with colleagues from adjacent fields and collaborate on interdisciplinary research.
	You publish internationally and give lectures.
	You apply for projects and raise third-party funds.


This is a purely research-oriented position with no teaching duties, unless the candidate specifically requests them, in which case additional compensation will be provided.

These are your qualifications:


	You have completed doctoral/PhD studies in Computer Science or a closely related field, or you expect to complete them by 31.12.2024.
	You have established experience in distributed systems, ideally in the areas of the Internet of Things, Edge/Cloud Computing, Edge AI/Federated Learning, or Sensor Networks, with a focus on resource management, latency/performance optimization, fault tolerance, scalability, or energy efficiency/sustainability.
	You have research competence and initiative proven through international publications in reputable conferences and journals.
	You have excellent written and spoken English skills, demonstrated by high-quality academic writing and communication. (Our working language is English.)
	You are experienced in research management and leading project staff.
	You are a team player with strong social/communicative skills.

The School of Data Science (SDS) is committed to becoming the premier incubator for data innovation in Asia. Our mission is to nurture leading data scientists through an interdisciplinary curriculum that fosters ethical, critical and strategic thinking. The SDS comprises two divisions: the Division of Artificial Intelligence and the Division of Industrial Data Science, as well as the LEO Dr David P. Chan Institute of Data Science.

The LEO Dr. David P. Chan Institute of Data Science (https://www.ln.edu.hk/sds/leodcids/home) aims to (i) provide education service; (ii) empower researchers; (iii) cultivate new collaborations, and (iv) perform academic research in some selected areas of data science.

The appointee will join the LEO Dr. David P. Chan Institute of Data Science and will be expected to:


	carry out research and submit papers to top journals in the field of large vision models or large language models. Additionally, the appointee will be responsible for submitting grant proposals to various funding bodies. Furthermore, the appointee will have the opportunity to organize conferences, seminars, reading groups, workshops, and other related research activities;
	play a central role in the daily operation of the upcoming new Taught Postgraduate programme(s) offered by the Division of Artificial Intelligence/ LEO Dr. David P. Chan Institute of Data Science. The teaching load will be two courses per year, distributed according to the needs of the Institute and upon mutual agreement. English will be the medium of instruction. The appointee will also be required to supervise students’ projects or thesis; and
	perform administrative duties as assigned by the Director of the LEO Dr. David P. Chan Institute of Data Science.


General Requirements

Candidates should have (i) a PhD degree in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant discipline; (ii) a good command of both English and Chinese; (iii) a strong publication record in the top-tier journals/conferences in the relevant field; and (iv) experience in developing external competitive research proposals. Candidates with a good teaching record will be an advantage.

Appointment

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee. Appointment will normally be made on a fixed-term contract of up to two years.

As a member of the Multiscale Intelligent Biodevices Lab (MIB), led by Dr. Rujie Sun at the University of Southampton, you will lead efforts to develop innovative bioelectronic systems that integrate real-time monitoring and therapeutic functions. Your primary focus will be designing and fabricating flexible bioelectronics that can interface seamlessly with biological tissues, combining soft robotic techniques to enhance personalized treatment. In this project, you will collaborate with Inha University and have access to a broad network of academic partners, including Imperial College London, University of Oxford, University of Bristol, and University of Liverpool. The successful applicant should have required qualifications and experience


	Education: PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related disciplines with a strong academic record (Or working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD).
	Research Interests: Demonstrated enthusiasm for research in flexible bioelectronics, soft medical robotics, or related fields.
	Skills: Extensive experience in microfabrication techniques for bioelectronics or soft robotics, as well as expertise in biomaterials for medical tools. Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, and excellent communication skills.

About the position

La Trobe University’s Department of Politics, Media and Philosophy seeks to appoint an outstanding academic to a fixed term full-time (1.0 FTE) position as Lecturer in Politics and International Relations. This role encompasses teaching, research and academic service.

The successful applicant will contribute to excellence in teaching and learning across our Politics and International Relations program, including teaching core and elective subjects in the Bachelor of Global Studies, Master of International Relations, and Bachelor of Arts (Politics major). They will also contribute to supervision of Honours students and perform administrative tasks associated with their appointment.

About the role:

As a Senior Consultant, Workplace Relations, you will play a key role in managing complex employee relations issues and providing expert guidance on workplace matters, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and promoting a positive and equitable work environment. Reporting to the Associate Director, Workplace Relations, you’ll drive workplace relations projects and initiatives and play an essential part in legislative compliance and best-practice implementation across the university.

As a Senior Consultant, you will:


	Provide expert advice on workplace relations matters, including enterprise agreement (EA) interpretation and managing complex cases like industrial disputes.
	Represent the University at Conciliation hearings, preparing materials and recommending approaches to support positive outcomes.
	Advise stakeholders on workplace relations issues, offering practical, balanced guidance that considers organisational risk.
	Contribute to enterprise bargaining efforts, preparing EA documentation for the Fair Work Commission and supporting good faith negotiations.
	Lead or support investigations into misconduct, discrimination, harassment, and bullying, preparing reports with actionable recommendations.


To be successful, you’ll have:


	A postgraduate qualification in a relevant field or equivalent experience in workplace relations and/or employment law
	Extensive knowledge of workplace/industrial relations legislation and practices and ideally, at least 3 years post admissions experience
	Proven experience in managing complex workplace relations issues and influencing key stakeholders
	Demonstrated ability to provide training and coaching on workplace relations issues, including conflict resolution and grievance management
	Excellent interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to build and maintain productive relationships across all levels of the university and with external partners
