Damascus University is the oldest public university in Syria, established at the beginning of the 20th century. Opening as a medical school, Damascus taught medicine and pharmacy programmes in Turkish language.
Today, Damascus University offers postgraduate and undergraduate degrees including agriculture, economics, fine arts, engineering, and tourism.
In addition to its faculties, the university’s technical institutes offer practical learning to equip students with workplace skills in finance, agriculture, medicine, dentistry, engineering, and computer science. Damascus also has six higher institutes for regional planning, language, and more.
Students have the opportunity to study abroad as part of the student exchange programme.
At Damascus, there’s a whole host of activities for students to take part in outside of their studies, including writing for the university newspaper.
