Description

A research assistant position is available at the Objects and Knowledge Laboratory, headed by Dr. Olivia Cheung, at NYU Abu Dhabi (https://www.oliviacheunglab.org). The research assistant will carry out experiments on high-level vision (e.g., object, face, letter, scene recognition) in humans using behavioral, fMRI, and computational methods. Potential research projects include, but are not limited to, investigations of the influences of experience and conceptual knowledge on visual recognition.

Applicants must have a bachelors or masters degree in Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, or a related field, and should possess strong programming skills (e.g., Matlab, Python, R). Prior experience with fMRI, computational, or psychophysical techniques is highly preferred. The preferred start date is in January 2025.

The Objects and Knowledge Laboratory is part of the rapidly growing expertise in Cognitive Neuroscience at NYU Abu Dhabi. The lab has access to the state-of-the-art neuroimaging and behavioral facilities (including MRI, MEG, EEG, eyetracking).

About the area

The School of Biomedical Sciences comprises four disciplines: Medical Science and Genetics; Microbiology and Immunology; Pathology and Laboratory Science; and Pharmacology and Toxicology. The School is active in teaching undergraduate Biomedical Science and Professional Pathway students across a wide range of majors and disciplines, plus has a large cohort of Honours students, postgraduate research students, and coursework students in the Master of Infectious Disease and Master of Clinical Pathology programs.

About the opportunity

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate/Fellow - Organising for Resilience to join the University of Sydney.

The role is primarily based on the School of Project Management but will work closely with interdisciplinary teams across the Management and Organisation Sciences, Social Sciences, Urban Studies, Engineering, and Computer Science to advance research on climate change and global grand challenges.

The School of Project Management in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney is fostering interdisciplinary research and delivers world class teaching for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The program courseware is accredited by the Global Accreditation Centre of the Project Management Institute. It builds the capacity of graduates to examine the key interdependencies inherent in managing and leading complex projects, including projects in the face of climate change. The program engages with these dynamics to develop skills for effective planning, management and leadership. You will be supervised by Associate Professor Nader Naderpajouh, to provide close collaboration across a range of disciplines including Organisation Studies, Management, Urban Studies, Engineering, Computer Science and Social Sciences. You will contribute to development of ideas in the further establishment of this research stream through their research, proposal development, and writing of academic articles. You will have the opportunity to work with interdisciplinary collaborators from other universities, government agencies and the private sector. You will be primarily based in the School of Project Management at the University of Sydney.

Your key responsibilities will be to:


	work closely with interdisciplinary scholars, government agencies, and private businesses
	develop collaborative research proposals and research plans
	conduct research, including research design, ethics approval, data collection, analysis and reporting,
	write academic papers, industry reports, research communication articles,
	develop and deliver research outputs, tools; present results and research translation,
	coordinate research teams.


About you

	willingness to cross collaborate with the other Post-Docs in an engaged interdisciplinary environment that is required in the face of challenges such as the ones induced by climate crisis
	previous experience within a research environment and publication in relevant and refereed journals, and in a broad range of qualitative or quantitative data analysis.

The School of Arts and Humanities (SAH) at Edith Cowan University exists to advance social justice in the world and to improve the quality of life for all. Our Climate Justice research community undertakes feminist participatory action research alongside First Nations communities, people with Lived Experience and civil society organisations. This program is embedded in ECU’s Strategic Research Centre for People, Place and Planet (CPPP). The CPPP aims to reconnect people, ecosystems, and place-based knowledges for universal well-being. The CPPP mission is to conduct transdisciplinary research using participatory methodologies in the context of global environmental change. CPPP research and action is co-designed with Indigenous knowledge holders to transform human-environment relations through place-based, just and collaborative processes.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to join our team. This position offers a unique opportunity to take a leading role in the development and management of our feminist participatory action research for climate justice. 

A key project focuses on enhancing climate justice and disaster resilience in the Western Australian community services sector. This project is a partnership between Edith Cowan University, WA community service organisations (CSOs), Aboriginal Traditional Owners and people with Lived Experience. Collectively, we are developing an online Climate Justice and Resilience Toolkit for the WA community service sector. This Toolkit will provide publicly available resources and tools to support CSOs to embed climate justice and disaster resilience in their operations, policies, programs and practices. As a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow within this project, you will work alongside CSOs to develop, implement, document and analyse strategies for climate justice and disaster resilience within the organisations. You will work closely with the project’s Aboriginal Steering Group, Lived Experience Advisory Group, Stakeholder Committee and academic team.

You will also contribute to the development of other community-based projects for research and action in climate justice.

You will also demonstrate personal attributes that are congruent with the University’s values of Integrity, Respect, Rational Inquiry, Personal Excellence and Courage. 

Responsibilities


	Facilitate participatory action research with community service organisations about climate justice and disaster resilience
	Collaborate with community and academic partners to develop and manage projects in climate justice
	Write grant applications to secure funding for new initiatives
	Co-author manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
	Conduct comprehensive qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis
	Perform additional duties as required to support the team’s goals


Requirements


	PhD in an appropriate discipline
	Proven experience in participatory action research, preferably research that is feminist, anti-colonial, and place-based and particularly in the climate justice field
	Knowledge of climate change in WA, the relationship between climate change and social justice, and the community services sector
	Demonstrated experience of working collectively with Aboriginal communities and/or diverse peoples with Lived Experience, including appropriate protocols for engagement
	Excellent writing skills with a track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals
	Demonstrated capacity to secure research funding
	Excellent analytical skills with experience in both qualitative and quantitative data analysis
	Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage a variety of audiences and translate research to address the needs and priorities for communities and/or organisations
	Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a transdisciplinary team and with external community partners, and in building relationships with diverse groups of people

This part time, fixed term position attracts remuneration of $113,918 to $134,596 per annum (pro rata) plus 17% University superannuation contribution.

The role

You’ll be joining the Nuclear Physics and Applications group in the School of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Surrey, to work on the interface between nuclear physics and quantum computing. The work will involve developing and implementing quantum computing algorithms for solving problems in nuclear physics, building in particular on previous work on solving the nuclear shell model.

The results of the research will be turned into suitable outputs by the post-holder in collaboration with other project investigators;  such outputs can include scientific publications, presentations at academic conference, reports to funders, and material aimed at a general audience.

This post is offered on a fixed-term basis until March 2027.

About you

You should have a PhD in a technical field with sufficient skills and experience to be able to work in the combined area of theoretical nuclear physics and quantum computing.

Experience in computer programming for solving scientific or mathematical problems is essential.
