Basic information and contact details for City University of Macau
The City University of Macau (CityU Macau) inherited the legacy of the University of East Asia – the first university in Macao founded by Chinese patriots in 1981 – and was officially renamed to its current title in 2011. With strategic development and reform, CityU Macau has been offering more innovative and interdisciplinary programmes to meet society’s needs.
The University has set its main campus in Taipa and the other two on the Macao Peninsula. It enables students to access learning and library services across the city and to enjoy multi-campus experience. As of the academic year 2022/2023, CityU Macau has nurtured a wealth of high-calibre professionals who have been a key driving force behind the rapid socio-economic development in Macao, China, and further afield.
With the motto of “Virtue, Knowledge, Practice”, the University, as one of Macao’s four comprehensive universities, has been shouldering its social responsibility to educate a wealth of talents who are able to put knowledge into practice. The University upholds a pedagogical philosophy that blends theory and practice as a full-fledged metropolitan university with Macao Characteristics, China Soul, and Global Vision.
Gateway to Greater Bay Area, China, and the World
The University has teamed up with top institutions to forge a strong platform in delivering research excellence. At present, CityU Macau has 17 distinctive research institutions supported by the Macao SAR government and central governments. With Macao’s positioning as the interface between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries, the University is a key partner in the China-Portugal Joint Laboratory of Cultural Heritage Conservation Science supported by the Belt and Road Initiative. In terms of fostering a deeper cultural understanding and mutual appreciation, CityU facilitates learning and teaching of the Chinese language and culture among Portuguese-speaking countries and regions through its “Chinese Language Education and Cultural Exchange Center for Portuguese-Speaking Countries” and the “Training Base for Chinese Language Educators in Portuguese-Speaking Countries and Regions.”
CityU Macau plays an integral part in the integration of higher education in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone. As a city where Chinese and Western cultures meet, Macao is a window to the world, in particular to Portuguese-speaking countries. The University benefits from ample opportunities and resources for expansion with policy support. The academics provide consulting services to governments in the areas of Cross-Border Data Flows and Applications between Macao and Hengqin, Modern Finance, Social Work Services, and Interdisciplinary Geriatric Care.
CityU Macau is going through a phase of rapid growth. If you are a bright and curious student, or experienced scholar in Humanities, Social Sciences, or Data Science, we would like to hear from you and welcome you to join the University.
