About

Basic information and contact details for Chukyo University

institution

Founded in 1954, Chukyo University is located in Aichi Prefecture in central Japan. The university has two campuses, which are situated in Nagoya and Toyota.

As Japan’s fourth largest city, Nagoya offers students a lively atmosphere, while the campus itself is situated in a hilly zone in the eastern part of the city. The Toyota campus is also set in the hills of Toyota City, the home of Toyota Motor Corporation and an international business hub.

The Toyota campus has a variety of athletic facilities including an ice rink, which is used by Chukyo students when training for the Olympics. There are over 100 Olympians associated with the university.

Chukyo University was the first Japanese university to join the International Student Exchange Program (ISEP) in 1995. It now welcomes increasing numbers of international exchange students from partner institutions.

In keeping with firsts, Chukyo was the first private university in Japan to offer a doctoral programme majoring in health and sport science. In 2000 it also became the first private Japanese university to open a school of psychology.

The university’s ethos is based on the spirit of "doing one’s best" which ultimately leads to an academic environment of "doing our best".

The university's mission is to teach a new generation of students how to succeed in a changing society. Its educational goal is to provide students with the strength they need to think and act independently. This is achieved partly by giving students the opportunity to choose a faculty, major and specialisation, as it leads to "self-standing£ students.
