In 2006 Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) was created by the University of Liverpool and Xi’an Jiaotong University – a top ten university in China. Other new initiatives include new working partnerships with Xi’an Jiaotong University, the continued development of the four new Academies, and exploration of further potential locations to develop the SE model.

ABOUT SCHOOL OF ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY

The School of Advanced Technology has five departments (intelligent Science, Computing, Mechatronics and Robotics, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Communications and networking). As a research and practice-led school our faculty and staff are committed to providing our students with a challenging and stimulating environment, as well as unlocking their full potential. Upon graduation, students will become highly-sought-after candidates with strong academic knowledge as well as extensive transferable skills in communication, team-work and project management.

All academic staff members at the Department of Mechatronics and Robotics (MEC) are research active and have closely engaged with industry in and around Suzhou to support the research and development of Suzhou’s strategic aim of intelligent manufacturing. Suzhou is one of the top three cities in China and one of the top ten cities in the world in intelligent manufacturing, which provides huge opportunities for research and development, self-development, and employment. RESPONSIBILITIES

Applicants will have extensive teaching experience, have published high quality papers in their area of expertise, have been successful in obtaining research grants, and have substantial experience in the supervision of research students. The successful candidate, in addition to teaching typically two modules/courses per year (i.e. one per semester), will provide leadership in curriculum development and enhancing our research profile at the international level. They are expected to assume administrative responsibilities based on their experience.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCES


	A PhD in mechatronics, robotics, biomedical engineering, or a closely aligned area and PG Cert HE or equivalent;
	Ideally few years of teaching/research experience at a university or equivalent after completion of PhD degree;
	PhD supervision capacity;
	Strong publications record in an area of expertise;
	Evidence of success in obtaining research grants;
	Fluency in English.


Successful applicants to more senior professorial ranks are expected to also show:


	A significant record of high-quality academic publications,
	A number of external research grants awards,
	Experience in PhD supervision.


Desirable Qualifications/Experience:


	Professional memberships such as BCS, IET, ACM, IEE, IEEE, and HEA;
	Strong knowledge / experience in international higher education.


CITIZENSHIP AND VISA REGULATIONS

Employment at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is regulated by Chinese Labour Laws, and must comply with the regulations of the provincial government. About the position

This position is in the Enabling Programs team, part of the Widening Participation and Outreach department within the Office of the Provost. Widening Participation and Outreach is responsible for activities and programs that inform post-secondary school aspiration and access to university students from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds, and Enabling Programs is the academic unit that supports university entry for aspiring students without a traditional entry pathway. The team delivers the Tertiary Preparation Program (TPP), one of Victoria’s major Enabling Programs, as an ATAR-alternative pathway program for school students (Aspire Prepare) and plays a key role in supporting the University’s equity mission.

Reporting to the Academic Director, Widening Participation, the Lecturer, Enabling Programs, leads the Enabling Programs team, managing two Associate Lectures as well as casual academic staff. The incumbent is responsible for day-to-day academic administration including acting as Subject Coordinator for the program’s subjects, ensuring grading and student support is delivered in a timely manner, and maintaining subject role-overs. The position works closely with other colleagues in the Widening Participation and Outreach department, as well as teams across the University, particularly Admissions.

The academic programs (TPP and Prepare) are taught entirely online. The subjects are asynchronous but intensively taught, using supportive and scaffolded developmental feedback on frequent, low stakes assessments to develop learner confidence and academic skills. Experience in an innovative online learning environment will be highly valued.

Key Selection Criteria

To be considered for this position, you will have:


	PhD degree or equivalent accreditation and standing recognized by the University/profession as appropriate.
	Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching, curriculum development and subject coordination in online modes, preferable asynchronous, as evidenced by sustained high results on student feedback on teaching surveys, teaching excellence awards or through other forms of evidence.
	Experience working within University policy and procedural environments including academic administration tasks (grades, subject administration, responding to academic misconduct etc).
	Emerging or established engagement with the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, in particular in the areas of: supporting academic skill development at the Enabling level and/or effective and innovative online pedagogies and/or supporting the transition to higher education of people from diverse/disadvantaged backgrounds.
	Demonstrated high level oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively, collaboratively, and productively with staff and students from a diverse range of backgrounds.
	Proven experience and success in managing academic staff performance and development.

Helsinki Institute of Physics HIP participates in the CMS and ALICE experiments at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN CMS is a general-purpose experiment that had an essential contribution to the Nobel Prize-winning discovery of the Higgs Boson in 2012. The goal is to investigate a wide range of physics including the properties of the Higgs boson and search for BSM physics e.g. dark matter particles. ALICE is the dedicated heavy ion experiment with a versatile proton-proton (pp) physics program. In lead-lead collisions, ALICE studies properties of the quark-gluon plasma, mimicking the conditions of the early universe, whereas the pp program is strongly motivated by open questions in the theory of strong interactions. Both experiments undergo currently through a series of upgrades to prepare them for the upcoming High Luminosity LHC phase.

Directly related to the upgrade activities of these two experiments, the Helsinki Institute of Physics is searching for a:

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER for a fixed period of 2,5 years starting as early as possible or as agreed.  The work will be carried out within the CMS Upgrade Project at the Helsinki office of the institute.

The main part of the work will focus on the following tasks:


	Extensive quality control of the silicon pixel detector modules for the CMS inner tracking detector and the ALICE FoCal detector,
	data processing and communication of results within the experimental collaborations.


In addition, the postdoctoral researcher is expected to actively take part in detector R&D and teaching activities at our institute.  Currently active detector R&D projects at the institute focus on pixelized semiconductor detectors for high energetic X- and gamma-ray detection used in medical imaging dosimetry and nuclear safety systems. Other projects concern development of radiation hard tracking detectors and ultra-thin silicon drift detectors.

The person selected for the position must have a doctoral degree in particle or nuclear physics or in an equivalent natural science field. In addition, the candidate must be familiar with the principles of radiation-matter interactions. Strong assets are hands-on experience in working and developing of ionizing radiation detectors. Profound knowledge of simulation tools such as TCAD, Geant4, MCNP, etc, is desirable. The position requires the ability to work independently in an international environment and fluent command of the English language. Especially important are careful and conscientious working standards and the ability to work in teams. The candidate must also be able to travel within Europe.
