The Arab American University is the first private Palestinian university, founded in the year 2000. It was formed as a collaboration with California State University and Utah State University, giving the university it’s American status.
Most the university’s students are from Palestine or come from Palestinian descent, however a small percentage of the student population is international.
The university offers programs at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate levels to students, in a range of faculties: administrative and financial sciences; allied medical sciences; arts; dentistry; engineering and IT; law; modern sciences; nursing; sciences and sport sciences.
The university offers several extracurricular activities for its students, including volunteering at the university’s radio station, AAUP Radio. Students can take part in sporting activities such as volleyball, soccer, basketball, ping-pong and many others.
The university is located in Jenin, Palestine, famous for its olive oil. Jenin is also home to the third oldest church in the world, St George’s Church. Students can visit Jenin’s old city and market to discover local delicacies, cultural offerings and handmade gifts.
