Those who are passionate about higher education in the Arab region are being sought to join Times Higher Education’s (THE) newly created Arab University Rankings advisory board.

The advisory board is being set up to ensure THE’s methodology is even more focussed on the needs of students, universities, and governments across the Arab region and is part of the organisation’s commitment to make its work more transparent.

THE is looking to recruit a broad range of people from diverse backgrounds and geographies across the Arab region who can be ‘critical friends’ to the rankings. Members are expected to participate as individuals not as members of a particular organisation.

The board’s role will be to advise on the general strategy for the Arab University Rankings to help THE achieve its objectives. It will meet four times a year, including at least once in person, and THE will support members with information and administrative support.

David Watkins managing director of data science at Times Higher Education, said:

“We believe now is the time to create an Arab University Ranking advisory board to explore changes to the Arab University Rankings making them even more responsive to local people and institutions.

“We’re looking for people who are passionate, dedicated and experts in higher education in the region and can act as a critical friend. We hope they will be able to provide insights from differing perspectives to make the rankings even more robust.”

If you are interested in being a member of the Arab University Rankings advisory board, view the terms of reference and email us at rankings@timeshighereducation.com, providing a brief insight into your experience and interests. Applications close on Tuesday 28 February 2023.

The Arab University Rankings were created in 2021 to support the rapid growth in the quantity and quality of universities in the Arab region. In the 2021 ranking 125 universities were ranked, plus 30 reporter institutions; the 2022 ranking sees 169 universities ranked with a further 48 reporters.
