V-cs leap to defence of 'united' CVCP

Vice-chancellors hold strong views and express them vigorously. They are, after all, academics; they feel passionately about higher education and preserving its quality. But your reporters should not fall into the trap of equating fierce debate with fundamental disagreement.

The CVCP is not about to split, (THES, May 15) nor is it deeply fissured. Its council, with representatives of universities of all kinds, agreed unanimously its position on the work of the Quality Assurance Agency and has similarly supported its approach to the government's comprehensive spending review.
