The ILT will raise the profile and value of teaching as a profession in higher education. It will help to set and encourage high standards of professionalism and scholarship. It is perhaps for this reason that many higher education institutions are supporting membership of the ILT - including financial support. The ILT is something that should have happened a long time ago. It is about time teachers in HE had a professional body with the prime objective of improving the status of teaching.
