Crisis, what crisis?

Nearly 80 per cent of colleges in the East Midlands have sound finances. Only seven have been assessed as needing some additional financial support over the next three years ("East Midlands colleges in crisis", THES, February 11).

Looking at financial health is part of the ongoing assessment of colleges that the Further Education Funding Council undertakes to identify potential risks to adequacy and sufficiency. It was a summary of these assessments that was presented as part of the report to the regional committee.

Where there is any potential risk, the council takes a proactive role and works with colleges requiring support.

There is no crisis in the East Midlands, just a concerted effort to deliver the best quality education for the region.
