FACULTY OPENINGS AT THE SINGAPORE INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

The Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) is Singapore’s first University of Applied Learning, offering industry-relevant degree programmes that prepare its graduates to be work- and future-ready professionals. Our faculty work closely with industry on translational research and innovation, as well as provide consultancy on solutions to industry challenges. 	Accounting: Financial Accounting 
	Air Transport Management: Airlines Management, Airport Management 
	Digital Communications & Integrated Media: Digital Web Analytics, Integrated Media Management, Digital Media Production
	Hospitality Business: Digital/Interactive Marketing, Data Analytics, Information Technology 


Successful candidates will join the Business, Communication and Design (BCD) Cluster (one of five academic clusters in SIT) as members of a team of accomplished experts who are passionate about higher education and deeply involved in industry transformation through applied research programmes.  

Faculty in the BCD Cluster undertake funded industry-relevant research, teach courses in Accounting, Air Transport Management, Digital Communications & Integrated Media, and Hospitality Business, as well as supervise industry masters and doctorate students in relevant topics. They are also provided paid leave to undertake consultancy work with industry and/or spend time attached with industry.  

We will prioritise collegial and team-spirited candidates with either (a) an earned Ph.D. or equivalent from a reputable university with specialisation in any of the above-mentioned areas and some relevant work experience, or (b) extensive industry experience with demonstrated strong technical expertise in the above-mentioned areas.

Key Responsibilities


	Design and teach labs & practice modules
	Mentor students in Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP)
	Lead or co-lead innovation projects with industry
	Manage labs and equipment to support academic programmes and applied research


Job Requirements


	A good degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field. Masters, PhD and/or relevant professional certifications would be advantageous
	Deep technical specialist with 10 or more years of working experience in the Chemical Process Technology field would be preferred
	Operational Knowledge in unit operations (for e.g. Heat Exchanger, Distillation Column, Reactors, Cooling Tower etc)
	Practical knowledge of Quality Management Systems and Engineering standards including but not limited to ISO9001, OSHA and BSI etc
	Practiced in Chemical Process Design software (for e.g. HYSYS)
	Extensive experience and knowledge of industry practices to bring industry perspective to SIT
	Keen interest in innovation projects, with demonstrated ability in developing solutions to technical problems
	Strong supervisory skills and enjoy working closely with students in an educational environment.



Key Responsibilities:


	Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.
	Undertake these responsibilities in the project:
	
		Project management
		Set up and perform protein engineering experiments.
		Mentor students in project team
		Report writing and literature research
	
	
	Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.
	Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers.
	Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.


Job Requirements:


	Have deep, hands-on competence in the areas of protein engineering work involving molecular biology, protein expression, characterisation and aseptic techniques.
	Ideally have at least 3 years of work experience in the protein engineering related research environment.
	Have a degree in chemical and biomolecular engineering, human cell biology or related fields.
	Good project management skills.
	Excellent writing, communication and interpersonal skills.

Our department

Based within the Faculty of Science, the Department of Computer & Information Sciences is an internationally recognised research department specialising in information science, artificial intelligence, computer security, health informatics, interactive systems, and theoretical computer science. It is home to around 900 undergraduates, taught postgraduate and PhD students with an increasing emphasis on in person and online delivery of high-quality educational programmes. The Department has a large portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes ranging from Computer Science/Software Engineering to more specialist programmes in areas such as Digital Health Systems, Cyber Security and Artificial Intelligence.

The opportunity

You will play a central role in leading the design and delivery of our BSc (Hons) Computer Science and BSc (Hons) Software Engineering programmes on our Bahrain campus. We would love to hear from you if you have a good knowledge of computer science/software engineering as you will be expected to design/develop course materials, teach those programmes and guide more junior colleagues. Experience of teaching in one or more of the following areas is required:


	Programming (e.g. Java, Python, Haskell, C, PHP, JavaScript, SQL, and covering data structures and algorithms, concurrency, software architecture, design patterns)
	Theoretical computer science including quantitative methods (mathematical underpinnings), logic and complexity analysis
	Computer architecture and low-level assembly-language programming
	Professional issues in computing (ethics, regulatory frameworks such as data protection, etc)
	Databases
	Computer networks
	Cyber security
	Web and mobile app development
	Knowledge of and the ability to teach current practices/frameworks/tools used as part of software engineering within industry
	The use of technology within business
	Artificial Intelligence and data analytics


You will normally be expected to have a good Honours degree and PhD in a relevant area or equivalent professional experience, to enable you to lead the delivery of the Bahrain programmes and provide student support. You will also be expected to develop your knowledge of appropriate teaching methods and good pedagogic practice.

The Department of Chemical and Process Engineering at the University of Strathclyde is one of the largest chemical engineering departments in the country; we are the top-ranked department in Scotland for Chemical Engineering (The Times/ Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024) with a friendly, diverse and collaborative teaching and research culture. We focus on developing students’ skills and knowledge of sector relevant topics, equipping our graduates to face the next generation of engineering challenges.
