The Department of Marketing at Aalto University School of Business invites applications for

Assistant Professor in Marketing (full-time tenure track position)

Your role and our expectations

The candidate is expected to exercise and lead scientific research, provide related higher academic education, follow the advances of their field, participate in service to the Aalto University community and take part in societal interaction and international collaboration in their field. The position is to be filled at Assistant 1st or Assistant 2nd level of the Aalto University tenure track system. The position is full-time and the preferred starting time is in the Summer or Fall of 2025 but a later date may be agreed upon.

The Department of Marketing welcomes applicants with an insightful vision on “market transformations”, and expertise in advanced research skills in marketing and consumer research (e.g., strong methodological knowhow with an emphasis on contemporary, advanced methods). The applicant should have research experience and interest in studying “market transformations” such as sustainable market development (including e.g., circular economy, alternative economic and business models, critical marketing and politics, societal and ecological resilience, green marketing practice), digital technologies and platforms (e.g., digital marketing, digitalization of markets, digitalization of consumption, artificial intelligence and data-based business models, VR/AR, digital marketing ethics), fashion and luxury domains (including e.g., luxury brands, slow fashion, distributed manufacturing, fashion entrepreneurship, fashion policy research), consumer culture (e.g., identity, symbolic consumption, consumer resistance, power and inequality), and contemporary retailing (e.g., omnichannel retailing, retail branding, sensory marketing, retail business models, platforms).

Overall, Finland in general and Aalto University in particular provide a great “platform” to explore the aforementioned kinds of “market transformation” topic, as well as other topics. There are good opportunities to get access to company and consumer data, as well as even governmental data. This is due to the high level of trust that both Finnish companies, consumers, and the government have in academic research and researchers.

The Department of Marketing comprises a thriving and dynamic community of faculty, researchers and staff, extending into four primary research domains: Strategic Marketing, Services Marketing, Retail and Sales, and Consumer Behavior. Your experience

Applicants should have a fluent command of English and hold a doctorate degree in a relevant discipline, or have their doctoral thesis under review (“about to defend”). The applicants will be reviewed based on their research, teaching, and other academic activity in the scientific community. Experience in acquiring funding for research projects and co-operation with industry and research institutions will be considered as an advantage.

The selected candidate is expected to perform world‐class research, teach, supervise and otherwise advance both doctoral and undergraduate education, be an active member of the international scientific community, and exhibit academic leadership.

For this reason, one of the central goals of our research community is to provide the latest tools, techniques and leading-edge thinking for managing and researching this continuously changing landscape. This endeavor is driven by rigorous and ambitious research activity and a lively network of projects with business and non-profit sectors, as well as with other academic disciplines.

At the assistant professor level, the tenure track covers two terms. The first term is for three years, with renewal for a second four-year term being based on a successful mid-term evaluation. Subsequent promotion to Associate Professor is based on a successful tenure review, conducted towards the end of the second term of the assistant professorship. Aalto University follows the salary system of Finnish universities. Salaries are competitive within the European context. Typical teaching loads for assistant professors are moderate: two 8-week courses to be taught per year, plus master’s thesis supervision throughout the year. A yearly research funding is offered for the first three years of the tenure track. The School of Business will also provide relocation support for tenure track professors coming outside Finland. Consistent with EU insurance and pension regulations, Aalto expects full-time academic employees to reside and work in Finland. In addition, Aalto University provides its employees with occupational health care services and retirement benefits.

About the recruitment process

ABOUT XJTLU

In 2006 Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) was created by the University of Liverpool and Xi’an Jiaotong University – a top ten university in China. ABOUT INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS SCHOOL SUZHOU (IBSS)

International Business School Suzhou (IBSS) at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is growing in size and influence in pursuit of its vision to be a leading international business school. The school is based on strong principles of internationalism, innovation, inspiration and integrity, which together ensure that we have a positive impact on society through our teaching, research and business engagement. In that pursuit, IBSS became the youngest business school to be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in 2016, and again, the youngest School to receive EQUIS accreditation in 2018. RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATION

XJTLU is a research-led university and correspondingly, International Business School Suzhou is a research-led business school. In this context, even though the workload of faculty in IBSS is generally shared between teaching, research, and service, Professors are expected to greatly contribute to the research activity of the School. Research activities include the publication of research articles, attendance of international conferences, and applications for research funding. Research performance in the School is benchmarked on internationally recognized lists of journal quality such as the Academic Journal Guide (UK) – a.k.a. the ABS list – and the ABDC list (AUS). The target levels on those lists are ABS3/ABDC: A or above.

In addition, Professors are also expected to hold leadership roles (service) with the Department, School, or the University, using their experience and expertise to represent the Economics Department and the Business School.

In terms of teaching, all faculty within the Department are required to teach and Professors should be willing and able to teaching at all levels, including undergraduate, masters, PhD, and executive education.

Successful applicants to the position of Assistant/Associate Professor are expected to have:


	A PhD degree in Economics or a related field,
	Teaching experience in higher education,

The Department of IOM, which encompasses the fields of Operations Management, Information Management, Marketing, and Project Management, is set to become an independent academic unit with the beginning of the 2020/21 academic year, as a result of splitting the original Department of Management. At present, the IOM department has a strong team of 36 academic staff and 12 Ph.D. students, publishing in top journals, such as Production and Operations Management (UTD), Journal of Operations Management (UTD), MIS Quarterly (UTD), Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science (ABS 4*), British Journal of Management (ABS 4), European Journal of Operational Research (ABS 4), Journal of Service Research (ABS 4),  International Journal of Information Management (ABDC A*), International Journal of Production Economics (ABDC A*), Decision Support Systems (ABDC A*) and among others. Members of the department teach a large number of undergraduate students in marketing, business administration, and information management and information system programmes as well as postgraduate students enrolled in Management MRes, MSc Operations and Supply Chain Management, MSc Project Management, as well as MSc Management or the IMBA.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Applications are invited for Information Management and Marketing at IBSS of XJTLU. XJTLU is a research-led university. In this context, even though the workload of faculty in IBSS is generally shared between teaching, research, and service, early-career faculty members are expected to spend the majority of their time on research, followed by teaching, then service. Research activities include the publication of research articles, attendance of international conferences, and applications for research funding. Research performance in the School is benchmarked on internationally recognized lists of journal quality such as the Academic Journal Guide (UK) – a.k.a. the ABS list – and the ABDC list (Australia). The target levels on those lists are ABS3/ABDC-A or above.

The successful candidate will be expected to deliver lectures and tutorials across all years of the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes; to supervise undergraduate, master’s and potentially doctoral dissertations.

About the Roles

The Project Managers will facilitate and have oversight of DICE initiatives that directly contribute towards achieving the University’s strategic objectives. They will work in a small team but will engage with a broad group of stakeholders, including vendors and external partners as required. 

Initiatives for which Project Managers are sought are: Next Generation Core Digital Infrastructure and Network Modernisation Program. 

Key Duties:  


	Facilitate initiatives from inception through to completion by applying the relevant project management methodology, considering the operational context and the ITS Agile delivery approach 
	Provide leadership and management to create an engaged and cohesive team that operates according to the ITS target cultural values 
	Establish, maintain and support appropriate governance arrangements, and monitor progress to ensure milestones are met and outcomes are delivered 
	Manage vendors and contracts in line with ANU policies and procedures and best practice to ensure the University interests are protected 


About You

	Has extensive experience in supporting ICT initiatives to achieve high quality outcomes, including working in or interfacing with an Agile environment 
	Has strong interpersonal and communication skills 
	Is excited to work as part of a team and to create a positive working culture. 
	Takes pride in creating high quality (just enough) documentation and reporting artifacts 
	Has a strong understanding of network security and modernisation technologies and experience delivering network rollout projects (requirement for the Network Modernisation Program role only)
