About the team:

The research group Scientific Computing, led by Prof. Siegfried Benkner, focuses on research in programming paradigms, languages, compilers, and software and hardware infrastructures for scientific computing to support users in the process of solving increasingly complex compute- and data-intensive problems in science and engineering on high-end parallel and distributed computing platforms.
The selected candidate will participate in an international and interdisciplinary research project under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Atakan Aral.  The project aims to ensure seamless and reliable monitoring of critical infrastructures (e.g., facilities for water supply and electricity generation) through real-time and distributed processing of IoT sensor data. The project team will include doctoral and master’s students in our group, as well as international partners from the University of Sheffield, UK, and University College Dublin, Ireland.

Your future tasks:

Active participation in research and administration, which means:


	You develop an independent research profile in the field of distributed systems.
	You get involved in the research and management of the EU project mentioned above.
	You supervise the research conducted by master’s and doctoral students.
	You engage with colleagues from adjacent fields and collaborate on interdisciplinary research.
	You publish internationally and give lectures.
	You apply for projects and raise third-party funds.


This is a purely research-oriented position with no teaching duties, unless the candidate specifically requests them, in which case additional compensation will be provided.

These are your qualifications:


	You have completed doctoral/PhD studies in Computer Science or a closely related field, or you expect to complete them by 31.12.2024.
	You have established experience in distributed systems, ideally in the areas of the Internet of Things, Edge/Cloud Computing, Edge AI/Federated Learning, or Sensor Networks, with a focus on resource management, latency/performance optimization, fault tolerance, scalability, or energy efficiency/sustainability.
	You have research competence and initiative proven through international publications in reputable conferences and journals.
	You have excellent written and spoken English skills, demonstrated by high-quality academic writing and communication. (Our working language is English.)
	You are experienced in research management and leading project staff.
	You are a team player with strong social/communicative skills.

The Infectious Disease and Epidemiology Research group in the School of Clinical and Experimental Sciences wish to appoint two Research Facilitators to help support the technical aspects of research activities and to assist with the day to day running of research studies undertaken by the group. The research group is based within the Faculty of Medicine at Southampton General Hospital.

Our group is undertaking a number of projects looking at the epidemiology of respiratory pathogens. Applications are invited from those with relevant experience of laboratory based microbiology and experience of research governance. Experience of bacterial identification is desirable. These posts are full-time but consideration will be given to those who wish to work part-time. Applicants must be available to work with some flexibility.

The Division of Science, Mathematics department at New York University Abu Dhabi is looking to recruit a Post-Doctoral Associate to work with Weiren Zhao on subjects including (in no particular order):


	Free boundary problems in fluid systems.
	Stability/Instability of coherent structures in 2D/3D flows.
	Stability/Instability in geophysical fluids and plasma physics.
	Spectral theory for non-self-adjoint operators.


Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics (or be close to completing one). Ph.D. holders with a strong publication record and a background in analysis and PDE are encouraged to apply.Applications will be accepted immediately, and candidates will be considered until the position is filled.

About the Job

This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on research experience in a well-funded, and internationally prominent, research group. In particular we are looking for candidates who are keen to gain experience prior to starting a PhD or research post in developmental, educational or clinical psychology or neuroscience.

An Institute Manager is required for the new Institute for the Science of Early Years (ISEY), a new centre currently being set up based on existing work from the UEL BabyDev Lab (www.uelbabydev.com), and other world-leading courses at UEL (e.g. the Educational and Child Psychology Prof Doc and Clinical Psychology Prof Doc, Psychology, Education). 

The post holder will be responsible for coordinating several ongoing research grants in early years neuroscience, including awards from the European Research Council, European Union, Economic and Social Research Councils UK, and Medical Research Council, as well as liaising with academic staff, local national and international educational bodies, commercial partners, clinical partners, local councils, journalists and media.

Duties will be highly varied, and will involve: managing recruitment of infant/child participants, coordinating a large and highly active group research including coordinating lab meetings, procurement, reports to grant holders, coordinating academic staff across the university, managing students and interns on research projects, managing the group’s state-of-the-art research facilities which include AR/VR, EEG, fNIRS, eyetracking, wearables, managing the centre’s social media channels, dealing with press inquiries, liaising with local education providers and clinical partners, and so on.  

About You

The Center for Smart Engineering Materials (CSEM), New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a Research Assistant to work on the development of high sensitivity integrated photonics sensors in Silicon Photonics (SiPh) platform.

The successful applicant will drive an exciting project on the development of smart optical sensors for environmental monitoring in the oil & gas industry. Our photonics research lab within the CSEM has set modern tools for the design, testing, and optimization of photonic circuits. It is open for collaboration with researchers with a background in basic research to investigate new optical circuits and materials with specific optical, electrical, and mechanical properties. The focus of this research project is related to advanced optoelectronics materials for sensing applications. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists, graduate students, and undergraduate students.
