Solution to Lottery squabbles

September 1, 1995

The public (or rather the media) is constantly squabbling about what to do with the National Lottery money (THES, August 25). What suits one section of society will never suit the rest.

Camelot could print a questionnaire on the Lottery tickets, with tick boxes as to which general areas the money should go. That way nobody could complain as those who use the lottery are deciding where their money goes. If 60 per cent select health and 40 per cent select arts then split the money 60-40 to the two.

I am almost sure that you could take this further. As the Lottery machines are designed to read ticked cards and store the information, perhaps the collection of the information could be incorporated into the initial reading of the card, simplifying the process even further.
