The School of Data Science (SDS) is committed to becoming the premier incubator for data innovation in Asia. Our mission is to nurture leading data scientists through an interdisciplinary curriculum that fosters ethical, critical and strategic thinking. The SDS comprises two divisions: the Division of Artificial Intelligence and the Division of Industrial Data Science, as well as the LEO Dr David P. Chan Institute of Data Science.

The LEO Dr. David P. Chan Institute of Data Science (https://www.ln.edu.hk/sds/leodcids/home) aims to (i) provide education service; (ii) empower researchers; (iii) cultivate new collaborations, and (iv) perform academic research in some selected areas of data science.

The appointee will join the LEO Dr. David P. Chan Institute of Data Science and will be expected to:


	carry out research and submit papers to top journals in the field of large vision models or large language models. Additionally, the appointee will be responsible for submitting grant proposals to various funding bodies. Furthermore, the appointee will have the opportunity to organize conferences, seminars, reading groups, workshops, and other related research activities;
	play a central role in the daily operation of the upcoming new Taught Postgraduate programme(s) offered by the Division of Artificial Intelligence/ LEO Dr. David P. Chan Institute of Data Science. The teaching load will be two courses per year, distributed according to the needs of the Institute and upon mutual agreement. English will be the medium of instruction. The appointee will also be required to supervise students’ projects or thesis; and
	perform administrative duties as assigned by the Director of the LEO Dr. David P. Chan Institute of Data Science.


General Requirements

Candidates should have (i) a PhD degree in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant discipline; (ii) a good command of both English and Chinese; (iii) a strong publication record in the top-tier journals/conferences in the relevant field; and (iv) experience in developing external competitive research proposals. Candidates with a good teaching record will be an advantage.

Appointment

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee. Appointment will normally be made on a fixed-term contract of up to two years.

Program Overview

The NYU Abu Dhabi Summer Academy is an 18-month university preparation program designed to enhance the academic profiles of highly motivated Emirati high school students. The program features intensive instruction in Leadership and Public Speaking, Critical Thinking and Writing, Mathematical Reasoning for the Sciences, College Readiness and Success, and IELTS Preparation over the course of two summers and an intervening academic year. 

Following a competitive admissions process, up to 90 program participants are selected each year as recipients of the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Scholarships for Outstanding High School Students, which enables them to attend the Summer Academy.

In this mixed-gender program, students are exposed to a rich cultural and rigorous academic program which enhances their ability to gain admission to and perform well at top-tier English-language universities. The program begins during the summer following the 10th year of high school and continues for the following 18 months, with two intensive summer sessions of study in Abu Dhabi at the NYUAD Campus. In addition, students participate in online study and academic refresher weekends during the following academic year.

University Preparation

Students gain the academic, cultural, and social skills necessary for success at top-tier universities. Summer Academy graduates have attended Yale, NYU New York, NYU Abu Dhabi, Princeton, United Arab Emirates University, The London School of Economics, George Washington University, King’s College London, The University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, and many others.

Academic Preparation

We introduce students to accelerated study of mathematics, critical thinking and writing, the humanities and to the value of a liberal arts education.

Cultural Awareness

Students develop their understanding of the social and cultural norms of universities and build useful intercultural competencies for success in university.

Test Preparation

We prepare students to excel on the standardized tests necessary for university entry.

Leadership and Public Speaking Skills

With Leadership and Public Speaking as a required course in the Summer Academy,  our program spurs confidence, personal growth, maturity, and leadership skills.

Social Networking

We bring together top students from across the UAE who form a supportive and challenging social network among themselves and with Summer Academy alumni who have gone on to university study, graduate school, professions, and leadership careers.

Job Summary

The Instructor will be responsible for overseeing all academic aspects of the Leadership and Public Speaking (LPS) course, including lesson planning, instruction, grading, providing feedback, and holding office hours for two sections of Summer Academy students: those in their first summer (Summer I) and second summer (Summer II) of the program. The course will involve approximately 36 contact hours, with exact hours determined during the hiring process.

In addition to academic duties, the Instructor will support program-related activities throughout the appointment, including weekends, and participate in selection activities and graduation events as required. The Instructor is expected to actively contribute to enriching the educational experience of the students and to play a key role in helping the program achieve its goals.

	Summer Session: Five weeks from approximately July 7 - August 8, 2024
	Approximately two meetings prior to the summer session’s start for orientation activities


Principal Responsibilities

The job’s activities in terms that enable someone who knows nothing about the job to understand what is done in each activity.


	Teach the LPS course to two sections - the Classes of 2025 (Summer II) and 2026 (Summer I) in Abu Dhabi
	Work within the existing LPS curriculum to explore with students aspects of the theory and practice of leadership, develop their own leadership awareness, and improve their public speaking skills. This course, over the 18-month span of the Summer Academy, also helps students enhance their critical analysis, collaboration and teamwork skills, problem solving skills, and oral communications in various formats including speeches, debates, and group presentations. Areas of study include: characteristics of effective leadership, public speaking, leadership development, and interactions with leaders from different settings
	Attend any pre-program meetings and/or training sessions
	Work closely with the other LPS instructor(s) to ensure that both cohorts and all sections receive the same material delivered with a similar high-quality approach
	Supervise and coordinate instruction with teaching assistants(s)
	Arrange for meetings and facilitate interactions with leaders from various professional settings, typically 3-4 leaders in the UAE
	Schedule and be available to individual students and groups in need of assistance, as well as to other instructors undertaking cross-curricular or collaborative projects
	Provide students with ongoing and regular feedback (oral and written) during the course 
	Participate in faculty meetings by providing detailed feedback on student progress 
	Following the summer session, submit extensive and detailed written feedback on each student to be used in crafting letters of recommendation for their college applications (within 30 days)
	Attend and provide assistance as needed with co-curricular events and activities throughout the summer session, which will entail leading small groups of students on excursions and trips, or supporting the operations of the program as needed
	Oversee and support students during assigned day trips, extracurricular activities, and events, ensuring a safe and engaging environment that promotes learning and development

About the team:

The research group Scientific Computing, led by Prof. Siegfried Benkner, focuses on research in programming paradigms, languages, compilers, and software and hardware infrastructures for scientific computing to support users in the process of solving increasingly complex compute- and data-intensive problems in science and engineering on high-end parallel and distributed computing platforms.
The selected candidate will participate in an international and interdisciplinary research project under the supervision of Asst. About the opportunity

The University's Governance Office (UGO) is in an exciting period of development, striving to deliver a contemporary and integrated service offering aligned with the University's strategic objectives. As a result, we are seeking an experienced Business Program Manager to provide overall management of the Privacy Resilience Program (PRP). This is a high-profile remediation program which is aimed at reducing the University's significant risk exposure in relation to management of sensitive personal information.
This is a unique opportunity to work closely with the Manager, Privacy, and to play a strategic role overseeing and directing the program of work. Leading a team of program specialists, you will work with senior representatives of impacted areas to ensure appropriate focus and buy-in towards addressing risks within their area, in relation to privacy and data collection practices.

Your key responsibilities will be to:


	work with the business owner to manage the overall approach and work plans to ensure achievement of the program outcomes
	ensure senior leaders have a strong understanding of their compliance obligations in relation to data collection and privacy matters, within their respective work areas
	collaborate with and influence senior stakeholders across the various portfolios, faculties and schools and research centres, to provide recommendations and support towards implementation activities within their local areas
	manage the overall program financials, resources, prioritisation, organisation and implementation

Description

The Core Technology Platforms (CTP) at New York University Abu Dhabi are multidisciplinary, centrally organized research facilities comprised of 12 core laboratories. We provide access to hundreds of research equipment, user training, and research support to NYU Abu Dhabi's academic community and collaborators. For more information, please refer to the CTP website.

The CTP seeks to appoint a Research Instrumentation Specialist - Marine Fieldwork for a Fixed Term of three years, renewable.

The successful candidate will be a member of NYU Abu Dhabi Core Technology Platforms (CTP) Operations reporting to the Executive Director of the CTP department.

The candidate:

The successful candidate will work with researchers and faculty members on an as-needed basis and assist them in running experiments using the relevant ‘Core Technology Platform’ (CTP) equipment.

The main duties will include:


	Operation of the research vessel: launching and landing the boat on slips, navigating the boat to research sites using GPS, safely deploying and collecting research divers on-site, and cleaning and maintaining the boat and its engines (except for major engine services).
	Management of the NYUAD research vessels: keeping up-to-date logs of operational hours using the CTP booking software, maintenance must be tracked and a maintenance schedule planned and adhered to, and annual CNIA inspections and license renewals must be completed on time to minimize the interruption to research.
	Function as Diving Safety Officer for research diving at NYUAD: make sure that all research diving is done in a safe manner while meeting the NYUAD approved Dive Safety Manual, ensuring all divers submit project plans, dive plans, and their dive logs after research diving activities have been completed, the Dive Safety Manual must be reviewed annually to determine if any changes are required in collaboration with the Dive Safety Board, diving Statistics (logs) must also be submitted to AAUS at the beginning of each academic year for the previous year.
	Provide logistical and field support to researchers regarding diving and other marine research where possible.
	Provide annual training sessions for First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, and in-water rescue techniques.
	Preparation, maintenance, and cleaning of SCUBA gear. This includes keeping maintenance records and ensuring all equipment used is in safe operational condition.
	Filling of SCUBA tanks using the NYUAD breathing air compressor and associated fill station. This includes the timely changing of filters, air safety quality checks, and maintenance.


The candidate must be willing to be trained on additional equipment as required and operate them and travel locally and internationally if needed.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensing, or Training


	Three years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination, which must include extensive experience with     powerboat operation and SCUBA diving.
	Must have power-boat operator certification (e.g. RYA Level 2)
	Must have Instructor-level certification in SCUBA diving from an internationally recognized organization, familiar with all  aspects of safety during diving and onboard boats.
	Experience in teaching Emergency First Response and Emergency Oxygen provider courses.


Preferred Education, Certifications, Licensing, or Training


	BSc or MSc in Science, Marine, Environmental or equivalent
	Training in breathing air compressor operation and maintenance
	Training as SCUBA Technician
	AAUS scientific diver certification desired
	Familiar with UAE waters especially around Abu Dhabi.
	Valid UAE driver’s license.

	Experience managing maintenance schedules for scuba equipment and boats

	Experience as a powerboat operator involving scuba divers

	Experience in Closed Circuit Rebreathers desired
	Technical Dive Qualifications and experience desired
	Experience operating and maintaining breathing air compressors
	Experience blending nitrox using partial pressure blending
