About the opportunity

The University of Sydney is welcoming applications for a Lecturer in Coaching Psychology (Education Focused). This position is an education-focused specialised category of academic engagement reserved for talented educators with a passion for, and demonstrated excellence in, pedagogical practice and design. The successful applicant will be working within the Coaching Psychology Unit, which is the world's first university-based Coaching Psychology Unit with the first established university master's level program in coaching worldwide.

The Coaching Psychology Unit is recognised internationally for its innovative and rigorous development of evidence-based approaches to coaching psychology and applied positive psychology and is renowned for establishing the early research base for the discipline internationally. Your key responsibilities will be to:


	undertake independent teaching into the programs delivered by the School's Coaching Psychology Unit
	engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences that meet the University's expectations and standards for education-focused staff
	contribute to outstanding educational design, delivery and evaluation to improve student outcomes
	apply knowledge of contemporary pedagogical practice to innovate education.


About you

Faculty of Science and Technology - FST

Faculty of Science and Technology aims to provide programmes for undergraduate and graduate education with quality reaching international standard. Qualifications


	A PhD degree in Geography, Atmospheric Sciences, Earth System Science, Sustainable Engineering, Urban Science, Geographic Information System, Ecology, or related disciplines;
	Candidates should have considerable experience in academic development planning and research development, and be excellent in teaching, research and service with outstanding academic leadership skills for research and development;
	A distinguished record of internationally-recognized research;
	Substantial experience in securing research funding; 
	Strong communication and interpersonal skills; 
	English is the working language, while knowledge in Chinese/Portuguese will be an advantage. 


The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in August 2025. 

Remuneration

A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP1,052,800 (approximately USD129,980) for the position of Associate Professor and MOP855,400 (approximately USD105,600) for the position of Assistant Professor will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions. Apart from competitive remuneration, UM offers a wide range of benefits, such as medical insurance, provident fund, on-campus accommodation/housing allowance and other subsidies. Applications are invited for appointment as Professor/Associate Professor on tenure terms or Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Linguistics in the School of Humanities (Linguistics) (Ref.: 530396), to commence on September 1, 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. Appointment as Assistant Professor will be made on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Linguistics, or a related field. The ideal candidate will have an exemplary research record and a transdisciplinary approach cutting across subfields. We seek to hire a scholar whose research addresses one or several of the following themes: (1) developing and analysing language interfaces between humans and machines; (2) uncovering links between language, nature, culture, and social organization; (3) examining the forces of language emergence, evolution, and linguistic diversity.

The appointee will be thoroughly familiar with cutting-edge methods relevant to their area(s) of specialization and employ excellent data science skills. The successful candidate should have experience collecting and analyzing large and small corpora, preferably typologically diverse, and approach language research from an interdisciplinary perspective.  Experience with multilingual populations and working with under-resourced languages is a plus.

The successful applicant will join a dynamic team of researchers committed to pushing the boundaries of linguistic knowledge and its applications in the modern world. They will be expected to lead research initiatives, mentor junior researchers, and contribute to the academic community through re, and knowledge exchange.
