Russell Group institutions are by far the most popular UK destinations for overseas students, accounting for more than a third of the numbers in 2011-12.
University Alliance and non-aligned pre-1992 institutions accounted for another third between them, says the government report International Education – Global Growth and Prosperity: An Accompanying Analytical Narrative.
Among Russell Group members, overseas students make up on average per cent of the student population, compared with a sector-wide median of 17.4 per cent.
While London is the most popular region, the University of Manchester has the single largest overseas population (11,200 students).
